Disdainfulness

I HAD NO RECOLLECTION OF ANYTHING TIED TO THE NIGHT prior to being handed that image. I was convinced the impact that it'd had on me had been terrible since it became my prime thought from the second I opened my eyes.

As I rolled around in bed, seeking a position comfortable enough to travel back to my dreams, where I was protected from these creeping thoughts. I groaned, frustrated when nothing seemed to be working.

Just as I thought I'd found it, I was intercepted by the sound of my ringtone echoing across my room and reaching my ears. I deliberated ceasing from my position for a couple of seconds before letting out an irritated noise and deciding I should do it. Not even caring for who the number belonged to, I swiped the button, agreeing to an extremely early facetime.

''Someone just woke up'' A familiar voice teased, making me flash my eyes open. I sat down on the bed, propping my phone up to a higher position, meeting Miles' face. It felt like months since the last time I saw it, rather than just a couple of weeks.

''Well, normal people sleep'' I said and his grin spread even wider across his face. I concentrated on his surroundings and he seemed to notice it.

''I'm at the studio, excited for the outcome'' He explained and I could only share his happiness.

''I'm happy for you'' I sincerely said. He seemed to be looking for something else to ask me about, yet still grasping a certain thought, to which I knitted my eyebrows together.

''How have you been, huh? Anything interesting going on?'' Miles inquired and I pursed my lips, feeling my cheeks flush at his very noticeable curiosity, and how it became almost too heavy to hold.

''If you mean with Alexander then, let's see, hmmm... nothing new aside from him being the selfish imbecile he always is'' I sarcastically spoke and Miles snickered at my humor, even though I didn't mean for it to sound that funny.

''I was calling to check in with what happened between you two'' He said and I made a confused expression. He looked puzzled at my mood as well.

''Nothing's happened'' I shook my head.

''What about the article?'' He asked and I was even more intrigued at what he was going at. I went through all of my recent happenings and could not match any of them with this he was telling me about.

''I don't know what you're talking about'' I sincerely spoke.

''Elaine, the article and the picture of Al going out with Alexa'' He explained and it suddenly all snapped together. Except I still didn't know what he meant by 'the article'.
