"No one knows much about the mysterious hooded figure that delivers ghosts to the underworld.
All we really know is that they are known as the ferryman. The ferryman takes the ghosts into his boat. It might be a rowboat, it might be a gondola- no one knows. The ferryman covers himself with a dark hood. He never talks.
If a ghost doesn't have a coin, the ferryman refuses to take them to the underworld. Then the ghosts are doomed to haunt the overworld forever! This is why when someone dies we put a coin in their mouth so they can pay.
The Ferryman will gesture you to get on the boat and ride in silence. The only noise is his oar steering the boat and the black water lapping at the dark wood.
All the ferryman knows is greed and death.
They deliver the ghosts to Hades where he decided if they go to the Elysian Fields of paradise, the emotionless lands of Tartarus or hell. The Elysian Fields are where the sinless go, the normal go to Tartarus where all is neutral and work. Hell is where the bad people go, there they are punished for all eternity- until the end of time.
The boat has the symbol of Hades on it.
The ferryman has no sympathy. Shows no fear.
Has no life.
They are just a being. Not a human, not an angel and not a god."
The goddess of light tells her servant.
"Then what are they?" Asks the curious servant looking at her with clear blue eyes.
"No one knows, Pit"
