In the black waters of the river styx, and against the black sky a lone wooden gondola is seen, with a hooded figure rowing and panting.

This is the ferryman- or ferry deity.

Her name is Y/N.

No one knows about Y/N. None of the spirits and ghosts bother to know her. Not that she cares, or so she says. A small part inside her wishes that someone would notice her. Other than Hades and Persephone of course.

Y/N rolled her eyes just thinking about them. She oared faster letting out small pants 'I shouldn't get so tired! I do this everyday!' she thought. She let her hood down trying to get cool, her messy H/C hair fell down from the hood, tangled because of being in the hood all day.

"Why do I even have to wear this stupid thing?!" Y/N yelled aloud annoyed. She shook her fist angrily remembering what Hades had said when she had asked him "It makes you look more evil and mysterious!" she imitated his voice.

That's one of the advantages of being alone-

You can do whatever you want!

And no one will judge you.

Not that Y/N had anyone to judge her. She approached the worn down bridge. It was routine- she HAD been doing this since Hades took control of the underworld. Hades had created her to bring him spirits of the dead.

But now he wasn't taking them in, he was making them monsters. Y/N felt bad taking the spirits to the underworld for them to be killed by some egotistical angel.

Hades had ranted about some 'Pitty-pat' whenever he came back from trying to rule the world. Y/N was bored of hearing about it. In her point of view Hades was an idiot for trying to rule the world and that the angel was too glorified for fighting back.

Y/N knew from experience that fighting never solved anything.

She had watched Hades do it one too many times.

But she was powerless here. Hades wouldn't listen to her, she was just the ferry sailor.

When Y/N wasn't giving ferry rides or listening to Hades's rants she was either with her only friends- the three fates or she was in her small cottage on the banks of the river styx inside the underworld.

The gondola hit the bridge with a thud.

THUD

On the bridge there were two waiting spirits with coins inside them. The were both glowing a cyan blue, this meant that they were family. When two spirits are exactly the same colour it means that they are related. Y/N pulled her hood on.

"Get on." Y/N said in a robotic voice.

The spirits floated over and sat on the boat. "So what's your story?" Y/N asked the spirits. She asked each and every one that rode her boat about their story. For entertainment and in the hope that one would ask about her.

She held her hand out for the coins. It was a good salary with the amount of people dying in this war. The two spirits dropped their coins in her hand and the male spirit started speaking.

Y/N pocketed the coins in her deep black hood and listened "We were trying to get away from all the fighting." The spirit started his head bowed down in sorrow. Y/N nodded understanding "That was wise." the female spirit looked at her closely.

"You're a girl!" She exclaimed.

"I get that a lot." Y/N responded dryly.

"Oh I'm sorry!" The spirit apologised before continuing the story. "We packed our bags hoping to travel to Ithaca." Y/N nodded remembering the place where Icarus died. "Then we were on our way on a buggy with one horse riding on the road. Then- BOOM! A fight suddenly comes out of nowhere in front of our carriage!" The lady stops to wipe her eyes. The male spirit continues "We were killed in the crossfire!"

Y/N nods sympathetically "This war kills even the innocent!"

They fall into a silence and only the lapping water is heard in the deadly quiet river. Y/N silently sighs seeing as no one is asking about her. She puts the energy of her rage on rowing the boat as fast as she can.

The other end of the river is now in sight and she can see cerebus- Hades's three headed dog awaiting the arrival of the spirits. The gondola hits the wooden platform with a thud and the spirits hurriedly get off.

Cerebus ushers them in and turns to Y/N.

"That was the last ride for the day. You are now free to go." Cerebus tells her in a business like voice. Y/N nods happily and goes on her way to her cottage.

She puts off her hood again and her black boots thud on the black sand floor. She goes around to the left side of the gate to the underworld, where her cottage is.

At last she approaches, Y/N heaves a sigh of relief at the sight of her cottage.

It is a deep oak wood colour, with a matching door. The door has Hades's symbol written in black. Y/N scowls remembering how Hades vandalised her door with his symbol. Her house has glass windows on either side.

She opens the door and steps inside.

Y/N flings her hood off and throws it on the coat rack. She falls face first onto her sofa and picks out a book to read. She kicks her boots off and they fall on the beige carpet. The inside of her house is more colourful than the outside.

It has one room floored with oak with a big beige carpet spread out. In one corner she has a red couch next to a birch bookshelf next to a small kitchen. On the opposite side is a big double bed. Y/N pestered Hades to replace her single bed because she valued sleep.

Next to her bed was a small bedside table with an alarm clock set to ring at midnight. Currently it was 10 pm. She had three hours to relax before her shift started again. Opposite the door was a desk scattered with papers and quills. Amongst the clutter Y/N had a huge box filled with all her coins.

At last estimate she probably had about 100,000$ in there. It's not like she'd be able to spend it anyways. She sighed and sat back comfortably in her chair, book in hand.

Now was the time to relax.
