Hades.
The god of death reared his colossal hand back and swiped it across the turret Y/N and Deimos were standing on.
The marble crumbled, sending echoes down to the earth as it cracked and fell apart like a sandcastle during high tide. The breath was knocked out of Y/N as she plummetted to the ground. She looked at Deimos.
"It's all gonna be alright."
His smile lit up the world around her, like a lantern in the dark. He looked at her "My power is weak... but I promise it will all be alright." Deimos seemed to be looking at something behind her. Y/N shook her head "But how?" she stared at him "We're literally gonna die!"
Deimos shushed her "You will live." he whispered "C'mon, save the underworld and kill that Damn excuse of a god once and for all!" his smile was coy. The wind seemed to flow right through them, and Y/N felt sick.
"You ready?" Deimos asked her, holding her by the elbow. Y/N rolled her eyes "For what?" Deimos just grinned and held her waist with his other hand.
Y/N was so taken aback that she didn't even try to push him away, her lips weren't even able to form a retort. She just looked into Deimos's ruby red eyes, they seemed to be swirling like a storm.
"For what?"
"Heh... You'll see."
He pressed a piece of cloth in her hand, it was faded and grey, like the cloak he wore. He closed her hand around it "The last of my power." he explained "Ready?" he breathed, again.
"Ready for Wha- AAAAAAAH!"
In a heartbeat he pushed Y/N away from him. She fell into someone else's arms "WHAT THE HELL, DEIMOS?!" She screamed as the god of terror fell under the clouds saying one last sentence, his voice as coy as ever.
"You know you love me, reaper."
Y/N struggled in the grasp of her captor's arms "You have to help him!" she yelled "He's gonna die!" her voice choked. A familiar voice reassured her "He's a god Y/N, and Lady Palutena will save him!" she recognised it as Pit's optimistic voice.
Y/N felt herself groan, she didn't trust Pit's precious 'Lady Palutena' one bit. She had already lost Atropos... she didn't think she could loose Deimos either.
"Hey, It's all going to be alright." Pit said, in an effort to reassure her. Despite the crumbling temple behind him, Despite the ebony sky growing darker and darker, Despite the patchwork of cuts and bruises he wore and despite his battered, falling apart wings.
Y/N tilted her head up, she had to be strong. She had to show them all up. She had to remain cold and aloof. Her lips formed a sly grin "What now, cupid?" she gave him a wink. Pit brightened up at the use of his nickname "Now- I'm gonna throw you into Hades and you have to stab at his heart."
"Wait, WHAT NOW-?!" Y/N dug her nails into his arms "I'M GONNA DIE!" she spat. Pit gave her a sheepish smile "Lady Palutena said the thing inside your oar-" "Messorem." Y/N interrupted "Yeah- Messorem- would protect you. And the curse would break."
Pit added quickly "I won't let you die, promise!" he stared her in the eye. Y/N snorted, amused "The last boy who said that to me threw me on top of a dragon, helped me escape jail, saved me from a freaking Chimera and now he's probably lying in a ditch... dead."
"This is different."
"How so?"
"Because I owe you a promise!" Pit's expression was surprisingly steely. And, with a flap of his feathery wings, they were thrust upwards- towards the sun. Y/N clung onto Pit for dear life as the wind rushed past her ears "You ready?" Pit asked her.
Y/N flinched, hearing those words in Deimos's voice "Ready." her voice came out squeaky. Pit gave her a smile and with blushing cheeks, he planted a soft kiss on her ashen cheek. He quickly pulled away, pretending nothing had transpired "Stay safe," he said and with that, he threw her into the swirling storm.
Pit hovered there for a few seconds, regretting throwing her in there. But he knew there was no other choice. That girl really had captured his heart. And then he flew off, to distract Hades. All that was left in the skies were his falling feathers.
"HOLY HELLLLLLLL!"
Y/N screamed hysterically as she flew through the air "God, I hope the angel has good aim!" she said through gritted teeth as she clenched her oar in her fists. Thankfully, Pit was smarter than usual today and all that archery had paid off, because Y/N face planted smack in the middle of Hades's heart.
Hades didn't seem to notice, he was too busy insulting Pit.
"Looking a bit Pale there, Pitty-pat!"
"Must be the cold you gave me, Hades!"
"PIT!
"HADES!"
Y/N took her chance, holding her oar in both her hands. She reared back, trying to muster up all her strength and thrust the weapon into the beating heart of her former boss. She ignored the sickening noise that sounded and tried to push it in further.
Y/N could see the cracks forming in his heart and she could see her oar starting to splinter. Sweat beaded at her forehead and her hands felt sore, like someone had rubbed sandpaper on them. She pushed her boot against the heart for extra leverage and pushed it in further.
"Gods, why is his heart so damn thick!" she complained, a voice answered behind her "Maybe because you're so weak!"
"Damn you, Messorem!" Y/N growled, recognising that shadowy cloak and glowing scythe anywhere "Come to stop me?" she mocked him. Messorem put a hand on the oar "Quite the contrary, my dear girl!" He snickered "I've come to say goodbye... and to help you." Y/N was about to question this but Messorem pushed the oar all the way in.
Hades screamed.
Pit cheered.
Messorem dissapeared.
Y/N blacked out.
Deimos was dead, lying in a ditch. His ivory hair fell over his forehead, it was stained with crimson blood almost as pretty and shiny as his now dull eyes.
It was all over.
