Chapter 17

After my tears had exhausted, I pulled away from Pit. I took a last glance at my gondola but then something caught my eye.

It was a small piece of wood half the size of my palm, I could tell it belonged at the back because it had Hades's symbol on it. Hades vandalised a lot- first my door, then my oar and then my gondola!

I held the waterlogged wood piece in my hand for a moment remembering the time I had my gondola with me. I shoved it deep into my pocket and stood up, trying to accept what had happened.

"Here's your oar, Y/N!" Pit smiled giving me the oar. I stared at it in horror- my gondola broke but this... thing survived?! I stared at the oar in anger digging my nails into it, I looked up at Pittoo who was staring at the oar with the same fear.

It lived...

Missed me, Y/N?...

Messorem...

I would never leave you...

CREEP! HOW ARE YOU STILL ALIVE?!

I don't know..?

At those words, I snapped. I could feel the anger rising inside me, this time I'd let it rage. After almost dying this-this...godforsaken oar was STILL here!

I gripped it with both my hands and lifted my knee up. I drew both my hands down trying to break it... it didn't break. I screamed in frustration and held up the oar and smashed it down, hoping to hear it splinter. I only heard a dull thud.

I growled and threw the stick against my boat. "Y/N! What are you doing?" Pit asks me, I just turn away. I still haven't told him about Messorem... or about how I lied to him...

"Can you?" I hand Dark Pit my oar, only he knows what's going on. He nods and takes the oar from my hands "Can you hear it?" I ask him, he shakes his head. "Hear what?" Pit asks looking from me to Dark Pit, I just sigh.

He tries to break it in half, gritting his teeth in effort. He tries for a few seconds before passing it to me sadly "..I can't"

I have had it with being controlled by this oar! All my life! I want to be free from this!

I walk to Aether's cottage and knock on the door. Aether opens it and smiles "You don't have to knock, Y/N! What is it?" her smile slips off as she notices my expression.

"How do I break it?" I say through gritted teeth, Aether opens the door wider so I can go inside. Pit follows after me but Aether stops him "Sorry Pit...you can't come in right now." Pit tilts his head in confusion "Girl stuff?" Aether hesitates before answering "Yes... err, girl stuff!" and then she shuts the door.

(AN: My poor sunshine child! So pure! So innocent! So- REJECTED ;-;)

She leads me to the same sofa I woke up on and I sat down. She takes a deep breath before saying "No one else but the victim can break it, Y/N." my eyes widen. "Only you can break it, Y/N. I don't know how- I've never tried it! Mine still resides in this bracelet-" she holds up her wrist. I see a silver coloured pice of string wrapped around it.

"Only you can Y/N..."

I groan "I tried! It wasn't working!" Aether thinks for a moment "Maybe you don't have to just PHYSICALLY break it..." I tilt my head. Excuse me but- what? Aether notices my confusion "You'll know one day, Y/N." she smiles softly.

I wail inside my head, why was everyone so... cryptic?!

With Pit the floor ice cream fugitive:

I watched as Aether closed the door.

Y/N is hiding something from me- I know it! And clearly Pittoo knows, I see those looks they give each other!

Wait those looks could also be something Lady Palutena told me about. What was it called again?? Oh yeah- Love! Oh no- Love! Wait... why am I so against that? Anyways, I'd better ask Pittoo what's going on.

Pittoo is looking through the window of Aether's house.

I walk up to him "Are you spying, Pittoo?" I ask him, he looks at me with a start "Three things- 1. DON'T call me that, 2. you scared me and 3. No." he answers and walks away from the window.

"Is Y/N hiding something from me?" I ask him "Did I do something to make her not like me anymore?!" I start panicking "I'm sorry!" Pittoo puts him hand over my mouth.

"Be quiet!" He hisses, I nod silently. "Is Y/N still my friend?" Pittoo rolls his eyes "Yes!"

"Then why is she hiding something from me?" I press him, he hesitates before answering "No, she isn't." I glare "I know she is! I'm not stupid!" I exclaim.

I cross my arms over my chest and wait for Pittoo to answer "... I can't tell you..." he says at last. I sigh "Can you at least tell me why?" I ask "She told me not to." he answers. "Don't tell her I told you that!" Pittoo exclaims.

I nod "I promise."

Pittoo hesitates before adding "It's probably just...uh..Girl stuff!"

'Girl stuff!' Why are people hiding things from me?! I feel like I'm the only one who doesn't know what's going on! I've heard that one too many times!

I'm starting to feel frustrated! Then I remember what Lady Palutena tells me 'You gotta stay upbeat, upbeat, upbeat! Or you'll be dead meat, dead meat, dead meat!'.

Well whatever it is, it's probably important. I'm going to find out with or without Pittoo! I know that this secret is making Y/N sad and angry.

Maybe I can help!

No one will tell me anything- not even Pittoo. Maybe I should just confront Y/N? Or maybe that's not such a good Idea...

Why am I thinking about this so much?!
