Chapter 24

Pit's POV:

My whole body feels achey... It feels as if I just got slammed against a rock wall or something.

I open my eyes and am greeted by a smudge of bright colours. The underworld's sky isn't blue...? It takes a minute for my eyes to focus and I see trees?

I quickly sit up and look around, feeling confused. Once my dizziness stops I see that the sky is blue, the river is clear, trees are green and the sand is beige. This is definitely not the underworld, how did I get here? And then I remember. A reaper thing threw us out and after that I don't remember a thing.

Pittoo is lying down next to the river and he isn't moving. I stand up and run towards him, I sink down on my knees and shake him. "Pittoo! Pittoo! Wake up!" Pittoo groaned and his eyes fluttered open. "Get off!" He snapped, I jumped back, good to know he's okay...

Wait... where's Y/N? I start to panic- I made it but where is she?! I look around but she's nowhere in sight "Where's Y/N?" I ask Pittoo "Didn't the reaper throw her out after us?" Pittoo sighs and looks away. "Don't you see?! They took her!" He says harshly.

"We have to get her back!" I protested "We can't do anything for her!" Dark pit countered. I looked at the river and traced it to an opening in a cliff, that was probably the entrance to the path of shadows.

"We can save her!" I exclaimed, I walked closer to the cave but Pittoo pulled me back. "We have to focus on saving the world!" I glared at him "But what about Y/N?!" he sighs "Y/N is gone!"

"She helped us all the way through! She left her old life behind just to help me... she kept her promise! I couldn't even help her!" I yelled "We have to save her!" Pittoo just looked away uncomfortably.

"If you won't answer then at least tell me who that was!" I shout. Why am I so mad?! I'm not usually this out of control...

"That was a spirit, they live in her oar. Their name is Messorem." Dark Pit explains "It is their job to make sure Y/N doesn't escape! He's been whispering nonsense in her ear since she left and trying to manipulate her. Looks like in the path of shadows he finally succeeded..."

My eyes widen at this "Why didn't she tell me...?" I ask feeling hurt. "She didn't want to burden you with her troubles and thought that you wouldn't trust her anymore." Pittoo answers. "It's too late to help her, Pit."

"It's never too late!" I growl. I can't help but feel that this is all my fault. Y/N kept her promise and got us here safely, but I couldn't keep mine...

"Pit! I've finally found you! We must hurry!"

I hear the familiar voice and look around "Lady Palutena?" I ask aloud. "Yes Pit! I can finally communicate with you. I trust that you made it out! I think your laurel crown is broken because I couldn't communicate with you until now. You're not so far away from my temple so I will fly you here! No time to waste!"

I feel energy flowing into my wings "WAIT!" I yelp but she doesn't seem to hear. My wings propel me into the air and the wind blows back my hair and whips my toga.

I remember how weak and conflicted Y/N looked back in the path of shadows...

"Can we help her?!" I asked frantically.

Y/N was crouched down on the ground and had her hands clasped to her ears. It was almost as if she was talking to someone I couldn't hear. She was shaking all over and I felt bad doing nothing!

"This is her fight." Pittoo answered looking away from Y/N's suffering.

Y/N looked up, her E/C eyes were glazed over with pain "No one can help me!" she hissed.

That hate in her eyes startled me a bit... it wasn't like her to be so-so aggressive.

"Pit- It's okay! There was nothing we could do!" Dark Pit's voice startles me. "You don't get it Pittoo!" I glare at him "I asked so much of her and she still helped me! I was annoying, stupid and naive! She still kept her promise! The least I could do is keep mine!"

"Look beyond your personal problems, Pit!" Dark Pit snapped "The world is on the brink of destruction! It's your job to be a hero!" he fixes me with a harsh look.

Deep down I know he's right...

I sigh "You're right... I still wish I could have done more to help!" Pittoo's gaze softens "You're too empathetic for your own good, Pit." I smile "If I wasn't I wouldn't be so patient with you!"

More seriously, Pittoo added "Really Pit- I'm sorry we couldn't her Y/N... I know how close you were." I just silently nodded my head. I felt like I took advantage of her! She kept her promise, I didn't keep mine.

I can't get that guilt out of my head! Without Y/N's nicknames, comebacks or teases it feels too quiet- It's as if something is missing. oh yeah- Y/N is the one missing!

Stop being so sarcastic Pit!

You're a terrible friend, Pit.

WHY AM I TALKING TO MYSELF?!

I look ahead and see Lady Palutena's Temple surrounded by clouds. I missed this place! I also miss Y/N...

The sun falls on the temple and the clouds are pink- like cotton candy! I wish I had cotton candy.. Maybe Lady Palutena has some! Focus on your guilt, Pit! You can't be happy while Y/N is probably suffering.

I land at the foot of the temple and the energy in my wings fades away.

I take one last look towards where I came from.

"Goodbye forever, Y/N..."
