Yet another oneshot with a song. Lmao.
Short and sweet because I have no motivation.***
The clearing beside the forest is calm. The river sings soulful blues in echo to the song of the sky and the blades of grass sway contently beneath a darkening sky.It has cooled down now. Being summer, the trees have got used to the glaring sun, but now, as the evening descends, they begin to get used to the light trickles of breeze that rush through the branches.
Between two of these trees, a hammock the colour of daffodils was tethered, swinging beneath the colours of the sunset.
"Moon river, wider than a mile
I'm crossing you in style some day
Oh, dream maker, you heart breaker
Wherever you're goin', I'm goin' your way" Kate sat in the hammock, overlooking the glittering river and singing.
"Your singing is my catharsis, Kate." Leo sat beside her, handing her a cup of water and offering her a warm smile as she eyed it suspiciously.
"Don't worry, I filtered it."
She gingerly took a sip before turning to him. "You were really serious about this whole camping off grid, huh?"
"Yes. It's fun. Plus, it's a great experience."
"I suppose." She shrugged, moving to lay on his chest.
"Hey." He looked down, watching as her eyes fluttered closed. "Are you tired?"
"Very." She mumbled, her eyes opening slightly." I could easily fall asleep right now."
"Okay. Hold on. Wait there." He stood up, jogging over to the tent.
Half a minute later, Leo returned with Kate's blanket in hand. He sat beside her again and she immediately shuffled into him, assuming the foetal position as he set the blanket over the both of them.
"Two drifters, off to see the world
There's such a lot of world to see
We're after the same rainbow's end
Waitin' 'round the bend
My huckleberry friend
Moon river and me"
He stroked her arm softly up and down, watching her float away into a deep sleep in his arms as he sang to her. She looked even more stunning with all her features relaxed and the pale moonlight reflecting on her silky skin. Her eyelashes were resting gently on her cheek and she smiled, her dreams carrying her into a happiness that the day could only bring when Leo was bought with it.
Leo smiled down to her and looked out into the darkness, watching the stars shiver in the nascent coolness.
A billion verdant wands of pine waved in the arboreal air; for this place was magical, so much so that one can feel it from core to fingertips. The moonlight was dappled across the river and weaved through the trees.
When the day grows old and the hearth calls, the sun sinks down beneath the tops of the pines. The light streaks through the boughs in both brilliant and shadowy beams. In the summertime they are white gold, illuminating the greens into virescent riots; yet the gift of those warm days has passed for the season. Beams of light into sepia tones and the woodland becomes the most beautiful of photographs. And never is the woodland silent, though it is quieter than any city street for sure. There are the birds above, calling, pecking for grubs. There is movement of mammals, mostly small, sometimes not. There is the water that flows quietly until it meets the sharp rocky slopes and forms the waterfalls that Kate and Leo love so much.
A celebration of browns and greens await them in the woods and blue celebrations upon the moon river that flowed ever so gently.
These are the colours or nature's finest dreams.
