The sky was indigo that night, streaked with powder blue and dappled with bright white stars. It was 14 degrees celsius, warm enough, but there was a chill in the air. Leo told me that "57 degrees is not warm at all," and pulled a jumper, or two over his head. He had asked me to meet him at the clearing after we finished filming and I agreed.
"Wear those shoes, and I will wear that dress." He nods, and we share a wink, knowing exactly which dress. As soon as we finished our scene, I flashed him a smile, and ran back to my trailer to change. The sun had gone down, and the chill was becoming more prominent, but I still decided to wear the thigh high white dress with a plunging neckline... just for him. Locking the trailer behind me, I ran towards the clearing, my sandals clashing against the floor as goosebumps appeared on my skin. I wish I wore a coat or something, I thought. No, he'll like it.
I pause just before where the trees start. Everyone on set, cast and crew, know this place exists, but Leo and I have claimed it as a hangout spot, as it were. I looked forward, trying to breathe myself back to normal, trying to stop my heart from being visible beneath my skin. In the distance, a crackling fireplace casted flickering shadows across the clearing, its flames painting patterns of light and shadow upon the ground. Leo stood at the edge of the clearing, bathed in the ethereal glow of the chalky moonlight. As he turned to face me, a soft smile tugged at the corners of his lips, his eyes alight with a quiet intensity that stirred something deep within my soul. He sunk his tooth into his bottom lip, and a grin spread from ear to ear, and he held his hand out to me. My steps were deliberate and sure, and in his hands, he held his coat, which he draped around my shoulders, rubbing my arms to rid them of the goose bumps.
"Thanks," I murmured, my voice barely a whisper in the stillness of the night. Leo's smile widened, his eyes softening with tenderness as he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me close.
"Anytime" he whispered, his breath warm against my ear. "Always."

And I almost melt.

He took my right hand and extended it towards his shoulder, and wrapped his free hand around my waist, pressing into my back with just enough pressure to make my knees wobble, but not enough for me to fall. Behind him, he pressed a button, and tango music flooded the woods. There are loads of tapes here that some of the crew brought in to help us learn to dance, and Leo and I borrowed them for evenings like this. He stepped backwards, leading us in a tango, beaming at me as we trip and fall, and manage to get a few perfect steps in the mix. We danced beneath the stars, and the world around us melted into a blur of colours and shapes, the only constant the steady rhythm of our beating hearts. With each step, I felt myself drawn deeper into his embrace, the warmth of his touch sending sparks of electricity coursing through my veins.

"You should bring your feathered hat," I teased, a playful smile playing on my lips as I leaned into him. Leo chuckled, the sound a melody that danced upon the night air, and he picked the hat up from the floor, and put it on his head.
"You look..."
"Silly." He grins, and I feel my cheeks burn.
"Take it off then." He twirled me, and shook his head.
"No, it makes you smile."
I hummed, moving his hand back around my waist, this time leading the dance myself. Together, we moved as one, our bodies swaying to the music of the night. With each step, I felt myself falling deeper and deeper in love with the man beside me, his presence filling me with a sense of warmth and belonging that I had never known before.
"Kiss me," Leo whispered, his voice a gentle plea that stirred something deep within my soul. My eyes flickered across his, and down to his lips, as I leaned in, closing the distance between us until our lips met in a sweet, tender embrace. I wrapped my arms around his shoulders and our dance slowed to a halt. It felt... perfect.
But as the music faded and reality crept back in, a wave of uncertainty washed over me. How could we ever make this work? How could I ask Leo to risk everything for a chance at something more? How could...
I pulled back, my heart heavy with doubt as I gazed into Leo's eyes. He furrowed his brow, concern flickering across his features as he searched for answers in the depths of my soul.
"What's wrong?" he asked, his voice laced with worry. I bit my lip, unsure of how to voice the doubts that lingered in the corners of my mind.
"I- I don't know if we can do this, Leo," I admitted, flicking my eyes across his face, trying to gauge his reaction. "It's too risky, too complicated."
Leo's expression softened, understanding dawning in his eyes as he took my hand in his. "I'm not saying it's going to be easy." he said, his voice gentle yet resolute. "But I'm willing to try if you are. Whatever happens, we'll face it together."
"I don't know, Leo."
"Let me put it this way. I won't force you to be with me, if it's too early, you know with what happened with Stephen getting cancer and your breakup with Kristen, but-" I felt tears welled in my eyes as I looked at the man before me, his unwavering faith filling me with hope. "But I want to be with you. I love you. I want whatever is best for you and nothing less." He cupped my face, wiping my tears with the pad of his thumb. "Don't cry sweet girl."
Tears streamed down my cheeks, dripping down my chin, and he wasn't fast enough to wipe them all. I felt my knees buckle, and he pressed me to his chest to keep me upright.
"Katie, Katie, Katie," he cooed. "Oh, Kate, it's going to be okay. I'm sorry if I went too far. We don't have to do this. I can love you and leave you if that means you will be happy. I only want your happiness." He made sure I was standing steadily, and pulled his arms away, turning to walk away.
"No." I gasped, finally managing to catch a breath. I grabbed his wrist, and pulled him back towards me. "No, no, no. Please don't leave me. Kiss me, Leo."
His lips parted, and he leant in, stopping just millimetres away from my face. "Are you sure? We don't have to do anything you don't feel comfortable doing." I wrapped my arms around his neck, and nodded furiously. "Please. Kiss me, Leo."
He grinned, and tilted his head, wrapping his lips around my bottom lip, and his arms around my waist. He smelled like sandalwood, and sea salt, and his lips were warm and tasted sweet against mine, and I almost whimpered when he eventually pulled away. I pressed my index finger to my bottom lip, feeling tingles where his lips were. I miss him already. He darted his eyes away from the woods, gesturing for me to follow him, and I knew instantly where this was going; I wanted it too. With that, we stamped out the dying embers of the fire and made our way to my trailer, hand in hand. I fumbled in my pocket for my key, and quickly ushered him inside.
"Kate-"
"I want to be with you." I blurted, almost not believing I had confessed to him. Our eyes widened collectively, and I locked the door behind us. "I need to be with you. Please."
"If it's what you want."
I nodded, and his face lit up like a Christmas tree. I turned to face him, my heart pounding in my chest as I reached for the zipper of my dress. With trembling hands, I let it fall to the floor. Slowly, I looked back up, watching as Leo's eyes widened in awe. My fingers moved under his chin and lifted it up, moving his eyes from my stomach, back up to my chest, and into my eyes.
"Kiss me," I whispered, my voice barely a breath as I leaned in, closing the distance between us, and hooking a leg around his leg. He shuffled backwards towards my bed, and flopped down on it, pulling me onto his lap...
