Meredith and derek have been best friends for all of their lives. Derek is just 4 days older than meredith.
Their mother's have been best friends for years so they grew up together. Their families are really close.
Ever since they were little they realised they wanted the same things in life. They both want to be surgeons and have worked very hard to get into med school and it happened.
They're now both 19 and share an apartment that their parents helped pay for just, down the road from the med school/college that they both attend.
Meredith has always been quite shy, not very social and doesn't have many friends. She has never really been one to date or have boyfriends.
Derek on the other hand has always been very loud and popular. He has loads of friends and is quite a player. He's never mean to anyone though, unless they disrespect someone he loves.
