Chapter 26. He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

The accident was two months ago, and Peter broke everything off with Ken right after it. He still has his regrets, but he needs to be with Alex. Peter's heart was torn apart when Alex still cried regularly and said he was useless now.
Alex's car fell from a cliff. He was upset and didn't pay much attention to the road. He had multiple surgeries after that. He broke part of his leg, so he is wheelchair bound now. His ribs that were fractured are getting a lot better now.
Peter is just thankful that Alex survived the accident with nothing more than broken bones. He rented a three-bedroom apartment near the hospital. Peter took care of Alex on top of taking care of their kids, and he did that without complaining. He's tired all the time, but for the first time in a long while, he forgives Alex and feels in love with Alex again.
Alex, on the other hand, was struggling to accept his temporary disability. He kept beating himself up for putting Peter in this position. He tried to push Peter away more than ever, but he knew Peter would never leave him in his current condition. He is more mobile now, but still needs a wheelchair to get around, and moving in and out of the bed is a very painful process for him.
Every morning, Peter would help Alex with his morning stuff and then prepare breakfast for the kids. Alex could just watch Peter do everything by himself, and he was really good at it. But Alex knew that Peter needed help. So, yesterday he called Ken and asked if Ken would hire him so they could afford some help. Peter and Alex were still wealthy, but considering none of them worked now and the hospital bills that kept coming in, Peter decided to just keep the tutor and no other help for them. Ken gave Alex some easy jobs that he could do remotely. The pay is not good, but it's something. At least Alex can hire some maids that can cook and look after their kids most of the time. All his salary would go to the maid, but he knew that Peter needed this. Peter might not realize this, but Alex noticed that Peter was always sad at night and he drank a lot more than he usually does.
The maid will start today, and Alex has not told Peter yet about the maid. He knew Peter would be mad at him if he knew he spent the money on a maid. Alex tried to help Peter as much as he could, but he was just useless. He tried to help Peter clean himself once, and he ended up on the floor crying in pain. Peter had to take him to the hospital.
Peter came out of the bathroom naked and very attractive. Alex is so sad that he can't even give Peter sexual pleasure. Well, he can, but Peter refused to touch him sexually. There was a sadness on Peter's face every time he looked at Alex, and he knew it.
"Pete.. I can give you a blow job or you can just fuck me. I want it." Alex said it with a sad face.
"I'm fine, Alex.." Peter was really tired most of the day, and he never thought about sex. He's just Alex's caretaker now. He loved Alex, but he just couldn't look at Alex the same way again.
"Pete.. I.. um.." Alex felt like Peter avoided him like a plague sometimes.
"I'm tired, Alex. Do you need anything before I make breakfast?" Peter sighed. He's in a bad mood today because they have overwhelming bills to manage since Alex has been to the hospital a lot lately.
"Wait.. um.. you know, I have a job now.."
"Yeah? So? It barely paid anything.." Peter realized he had been an asshole that day. "I'm sorry.."
"No.. I'm.." Alex sighed. "I hired a maid. She will start today."
"Alex! Why did you do that? Oh gosh.." Peter was very angry with Alex's irresponsible decision.
"You are my husband. I don't want you to spend your day taking care of me and my kids. I just want to help.." Alex knew this would happen, but it still hurts him.
"Well, since you got a maid.. I'm heading out. Just take care of yourself for the day. I'm.. tired.." Peter shook his head, then walked out of the bedroom without even looking at his husband. The man that he said he loved with all his heart. He could not even go to the toilet alone, and he was leaving him for the day. Peter felt like he was a monster right now. He hesitated to actually leave and took a turn to the kitchen instead, preparing breakfast.
The maid that Alex had hired arrived not long after Peter started the breakfast preparation. She took over from Peter, and Peter decided he wanted to talk to Ken. He just broke it off abruptly and stopped talking to Ken. Then Alex had to ask for a job from him, which made it even more awkward for Peter. Peter told the maid to contact him if Alex needed anything. He drives to Ken's penthouse, though he doesn't even know if Ken is there. He rang the bell, and to his surprise, Robyn was the one that opened the door. Robyn looked a little more feminine than he usually is. He told Peter to wait because he and Ken had their morning meeting that day.
Peter checked his phone every five seconds to see if Alex or that new maid needed him for something, but it was just quiet. Peter should have been relieved to see that, but he wasn't. He felt annoyed. Because when he's around, Alex always asks for help every five minutes, and now suddenly he doesn't even need him. But while he was daydreaming, Robyn walked out of the office, and he touched Peter's shoulder. Peter jumped a little from that touch. Robyn giggled and told Peter that Ken was in the study room waiting for Peter. So, Peter politely thanked Robyn, then stood up and walked to the study room. He walked past the main bedroom, where he saw a naked man asleep on the bed. It used to be him there. He regretted his decision to break up with Ken a couple of times during the last two months. But he needs to do his best for Alex.
Peter opened the door to the study room, and Ken was sitting at the desk looking at piles of paperwork. Ken lifted his face a little and just nodded. Peter felt like Ken was still hurting from the breakup. Peter sat opposite Ken at the desk.
"You and your husband need more money?" Ken stared at his ex with a cold stare.
"That's not why I'm here.. I never ask for money from you. Alex asks for work, not money.." Peter couldn't believe that Ken thought that he and Alex were interested in his money.
"So, why are you here?" Ken didn't stop his work because he barely cared about the man who broke his heart.
"I want to say I'm sorry.." Peter sighed. "I need to be with Alex. And I.." He can't say he loves Ken because he left him.
"It's fine. We broke up, and you quit your job. No hard feelings. Is that all? I mean.. it has been two months already.." Ken didn't even want to look at Peter.
"I know.. you've moved on.. He's cute."
"That's none of your business." Ken finally looked at Peter. And he was angry with him. "I don't understand. Why are you here? Having second thoughts about your marriage again?"
Peter sighed. "I want it to work with you, so badly. But when I looked at Alex's condition. I can't just leave him. I love him more than ever. I'm just tired. I took care of Alex all the time. I'm exhausted. I'm here to fantasize about what could happen if I chose you instead.I'm pathetic, I know.." Peter chuckled, but it was a sarcastic chuckle. He knew he was pathetic.
Ken finally looked at Peter, and his heart skipped a beat. Peter looked like a mess, but he was as handsome as Ken remembered. "I'm sorry, Pete.." He reached for Peter's hand and held it. He still loved this man, but he knew that Peter would not have the heart to leave Alex, especially with his condition now. "Bring Alex and your kids here. I want to help you. Alex was my boyfriend too.." Ken smiled bitterly.
"No.. I don't want to be a burden to you.." Peter shook his head.
"I still love you, Pete.. and um.. I understand why you chose to stay with Alex. But you need help, and I want to help you. Please?" Ken stood up. He walked towards Peter and hugged him from behind.
"Ken.. I missed you.." Peter sobbed.
"I missed you too, babe.." Ken kissed Peter's neck.
As they were about to kiss, Peter's phone suddenly rang. He picked it up and it was the new maid. She said that Alex had just fallen from the bed. Ken insisted on coming with Peter to take Alex to the hospital.
