Tom Hanson has just graduated from the Police Academy, and has got his first assignment as an Officer. Tom's mom takes him to lunch the day before he starts, to celebrate. She tells him that his father would be very proud of him. Tom's father was Officer Tom Hanson, and he was shot and killed in the line of duty when Tom was 16. Tom had struggled with the loss of his father.
Tom's partner was Damian Rosatti. Damian called Tom when he was with his mom, and wanted know if he wanted to come over for dinner, and get more acquainted since they were going to be spending a lot of time together.
Tom said that would be great, and he wanted know if he needed bring anything. Damian said his wife had everything covered, just bring yourself.
Tom showed up a little early. Damian introduced Tom to his wife Maria, and his 5 year old daughter. Maria and Damian were very warm and welcoming, and Maria asked Tom if he had a girlfriend, said that she was sorry she should have invited her. Tom told them that no he did not have a girlfriend. That he never really had had a real girlfriend, where it would last more than a month or two. Damian said well you're young, so that is probably good. You never know though when the love of your life is going to walk into your life. Tom didn't think that would ever happen to him, and not sure that he wanted it to.
Maria left to go help their daughter. Damian asked Tom if he was ready for the case. Tom said he was but he had to admit he was not looking forward to being back in high school, he didn't enjoy school, and was glad when he graduated in the spring. They went over the case files. They were sent in to investigate the murder of the star Quarterback. His name was Zach. He had already signed a scholarship to the University of Miami, was a high school All American, and was touted to be the next Joe Montana, and have a long NFL career. The cause of death was ruled as suicide, but the family didn't believe that was the case, they were sure he would never.
Tom said "So in your opinion what do you think. I mean I get that his parents don't want to accept that he would take his life, but also man I don't know I don't see anything as to why he would want to take his life. I mean this guy had a bright future, college, Heisman, the NFL." Damian said "yeah I'd say it looks suspicious to me. I mean I will say that there are things that people hide, so if he was depressed, I mean maybe stress or worry to live up to the expectations, maybe there was a breakup."
Tom said "yeah I guess you're right. I mean I can not even imagine a man loving a woman so much that he would go nuts if he lost her." Damian said "So you have never been in love?" Tom said "no I mean I've had lots of girlfriends, cared about them, but when they start talking love, I move on."
Damian said "well you're young. That may change. I was kind of like you , didn't see myself getting married or committed, and then Maria walked into my life, and I honestly can't imagine my life without her."
Tom said "I guess you're right about expectations, I mean they already had this kid listed as the next heir apparent to Joe Montana or Tom Brady. I mean his sophomore year, and I heard that all the scouts and recruiters were after him, throwing girls at him on his college visits." Damian said "yeah I read those stories."
Sydney was 16. She was beautiful, but didn't really feel like she was. She was an only child. Her parents were hard on her. Their goal was for her to go to college, and to marry her father's bosses son. His name was John. He was a real jerk, stuck up, rich snob. But he had had the biggest crush on Sydney since they were little kids. Sydney tried to avoid him whenever she could. He wanted her to be his girlfriend, and she did not want to go out with him.
Sydney had a boyfriend, Rob. Rob was a jock, on the football, basketball, and baseball teams. Rob was popular with all the kids at school, and especially with all the girls. The girls followed him around, and worshipped his every move, so Rob had the big head. Rob didn't treat Sydney good at all. For one thing, Rob was cheating on her. But Rob rubbed her face in it, because he told her it was all her fault since she would not have sex with him. Sydney wanted to wait until they were together longer. Rob really was her first real boyfriend, and she knew he had had lots of girlfriends, and been with lots of girls, and felt insecure, and was worried that once they did have sex, he would be disappointed, so she wanted to wait.
Sydney was a big football fan, and had a huge crush on Rob since junior high. He actually never paid any attention to her, none of the jocks did, she would go up to them after their games and tell them good games, but they would ignore her and go to the cheerleaders. Rob was in trouble grade wise. Usually the teachers didn't cause any problems, just gave him passing grades. Rob could have made the grades but he skipped class, didn't study, didn't prepare for tests, thought he didn't need to football was his future. But there was a new teacher, who insisted she would flunk him if he didn't pull his grades up, so the coaches made him have a tutor. Sydney was really smart, and got straight A's. Mainly cause she never went to any of the parties, or went anywhere but to the library and studied. She had dreams of being a doctor, and wanted to help people.
Sydney was called to the Principals office to have a meeting with the teacher. Sydney was a little upset worried that she had done something wrong. She had never had bad grades or been in trouble, first time going to the Principals office. But they asked her if she would be willing to take on a job, and be a tutor. They would pay her to tutor Rob. She about died, because she loved Rob, She couldn't believe it.
Rob and her had her first meeting. Rob told her he wanted her to do his homework. Sydney was uncomfortable with that, and said no that she would help him, but he said no that was not how it would be, he said he would make it worth her while, and offered to take her out. She knew it was wrong, but she was so in love with him, and it was her chance to be around him.
It wasn't long before Rob was hitting on Sydney. He was wanting sex almost from the start, and she wasn't comfortable with it. Rob started having Sydney do the homework for the other guys, and just really didn't treat her very well. Sydney had decided she was tired of being hurt by Rob flaunting these other girls at her, and hearing about their sex, and being used for homework and so she told him she wasn't doing it anymore, and he threatened her, so she was a little scared of him, so she kept on. But was miserable.
