Tom and Doug wrapped up their case on Monday. Tom took the kids and Sydney out to dinner. Tuesday Tom and Sydney were sitting at Tom's desk. Adam came in and said "Hanson I need you and Doug in my office." Tom said "see ya baby" he kissed her cheek. He and Doug went into Adam's office.
Adam opened the door. he said "Sydney could you please come in" She did. She said "Sir I'm sorry I know I should be at my own desk" he said "You're not in trouble Sydney. I need your help on this" She said "ok." She sat down by Tom. He took her hand.
Adam said "i need you two to escort a soldier who has gone AWOL back to his base he needs be there before the guards find him. Tom said "um Captain I don't know" Adam said "Hanson I don't believe I was asking you. I told you it's what I need." Tom looked at Sydney.
Adam said "look Hanson I know and appreciate the fact you are getting to know your kids. I'm happy for you. I know that you have missed Sydney and I'm happy you have her back, but my former partner in Vietnam is the commander at this base, and he asked me as a personal favor to get this kid back. If they find him then he will be thrown in jail. If he goes back now, then he will just do time in military jail, but won't go on his record. I hate to see this kid have spend time in prison for this." Doug said "that's kind of harsh isn't it Captain" Adam said "yes it is but that is known before you sign the papers."
Tom said "why'd he bolt any way? If he doesn't want to be a soldier how can they force him?" Adam said "it's just way it is. You need to be sure before you join that you know what you are signing up for. My friend said that he is going to be one hell of a soldier, probably has potential to be high up in office, but he was too hard on him, embarrassed him, and he lost it and punched him, then split."
Doug said "So I'm taking it this kid not wanting to be brought back" Adam said "he thinks that he probably does want to get back, but he's proud, and thinks he's burned that bridge. So he ran."
Tom said "can't Booker go with Doug or Harry" Adam said "no they have a case." Tom looked at Sydney. Tom said "Captain I'd do it but I don't want to have to be out of town miss time I promised Sydney I would " Adam said "Tom it's only for a few days. Sydney I need your help on this." She said "Tom it's ok." He said "But what about the kids? I don't want them disappointed in me." Sydney said "I'll explain." Tom said "Dammit I've already missed 3 years. I don't want to miss another day. Adam please let me take over Booker's case. Send him"
Adam said "Sydney I need you to get into the security system at his old school. See if you can get into the videos. They had a basketball game the other day. We need to find this kid. If you can get back ground check maybe try and find out where this kid may be hiding out. His parent's haven't seen him. he comes from a military family, father, uncle, grandfather, brother, so he's afraid to go face them. He's hiding out somewhere. I need to find out who his friends were at his old school, any girlfriends, anyone that might be hiding him."
Tom said "What the hell you mean we don't even know where this guy is, and you want us to take him back" Adam said "Well I'm hoping Sydney can help us find this kid" Sydney said "yes sir. I'll get right on it. If you have his name." Adam handed her a file. With his name and his former school.
Sydney left. Tom said "Adam I really hate to leave town. I'm just getting to know my kids. I missed 3 years man come on your a dad." Adam said "Hanson I know that and look I'll make a deal with you, if you do this case, escort him back, then I'll give you a week off, or two weeks." Doug said "What about me" Adam said "ok Penhall you can have a week" Tom said "well ok If Sydney says it's ok. I can't risk losing her again. I lost her once because of a case, and I will never do that again. If she says no then sorry I can't do it, and I have to be back by Friday night. We have plans with the kids, and I can not let them down." Adam said "you won't have to travel far, if Sydney can locate him, you should be back by Thursday. I realize I'm asking you to give up some time with them, but I'll let you have 2 weeks off, and you can see them. I'll give Sydney 2 weeks off too. You can bond with them." Tom said "ok if she signs off on it."
