"Just because I can look you in the eyes changes nothing."

Berlin, Germany
October, 2015

LUCY BLINKED HER DARK CONTACTS in place, grasping her glasses and placing them on the bridge of her nose. Her lips were tinted red, a brown Burberry coat pulled over her shoulders. She looked away from the mirror as Klause knocked on the door. She turned, padding towards the door. She pulled it open and Klause smiled at her pleasantly as he stepped to the side.

Unlike the safehouse in Ohio, the hotel room she was currently in was compact and useful, less luxurious and more practical. Seeing as Henry co-owned the building, Klause had stepped into the hotel without a single cent. Lucy was clueless when they entered, until the hotel employee greeted him with a considerable amount of recognition.

The staff respected Klause, and he seemed to hold himself with far more confidence when he escorted her around. Lucy was only glad he enjoyed being as helpful as possible, and she made sure to speak with him so he felt more included in her ventures, after all, they were in this together.

At least for now.

She wasn't planning on staying with Klause after Berlin. There would be an undoubted rumor that would spread amongst HYDRA agents. No matter how much she tried to change her face, it would be impossible to completely change her physique—her mannerisms. That would be recognizable, even if her face was different.

Besides, it was unsafe to travel in a group—in pairs. Brock and Jack had stayed in the Ohio safehouse for a reason. She suspected they would travel back to their home in Queens when they were ready.

They exited the building, wind whistling in the air as they stepped past cafes and restaurants. Klause led her down the road, phone in hand. The prison was a short sleeve walk—she could see the broad security building a few blocks straight from their current location.

Lucy didn't question why Henry owned a hotel so close to a top security German prison, but she wouldn't question it, like she wouldn't question the fact she was walking across a sidewalk in Berlin that probably held a HYDRA base during World War II.

She was in Germany, of all places.

Germany.

Her hometown, the place she'd met Schmidt, the country she'd become a soldier and a killer.

She shoved her hands into her pockets, ducking her head as she stepped closer to Klause's side. Her shoulder brushed against his and Klause glanced at her as she adjusted the grip on her purse. His eyes flicked over her expression before he decided to walk closer to her in a movement of comfort. Her lips tilted upwards as she looked at him, and he gave her a nod of assurance.
