"Always go too far, because that's where you'll find truth."

Bucharest, Romania
March, 2016

LUCY LUNGED BETWEEN TWO buildings, the wind screeching in her ears as her breaths came out slow and controlled. Her footsteps slammed against the ground as she sprinted across the roof, ignoring the burning in her legs. She kept a hand on the rim of her cap, using her other hand to give her leverage as she lurched across another building.

James darted forwards in front of her, his hair pulled into a low ponytail, baseball cap clinging to his head. His sharp gaze was focused on the singular man darting forwards a few roofs ahead of them.

He wasn't a super soldier, however, and the pair were just starting to pick up speed. Lucy landed besides James, sprinting at a quicker pace. He followed suit, darting across roofs besides her.

There was something familiar with the way they sprinted alongside each other with their eyes locked on a target.

It didn't take James much convincing for him to help when Lucy relayed the situation she was currently in with Patrizio. It angered him and he used the emotion as fuel to aid her.

Lucy focused on reminding him of how goddamn beautiful he was, hoping he'd disregard any bullshit Brock had fed him.

She didn't know how she felt about Brock, not really; not anymore.

He'd hurt James but it had been. . .James had asked him to hurt him; he'd confirmed that himself. Still, that didn't mean Brock wasn't to blame. He should've been the bigger person–hell, he knew what they went through, and even after all that shit, he treated James like he was barely worth anything. And she despised him for it.

James had been vulnerable, and in that vulnerable state Brock had used him.

She exhaled slowly, calm and controlled, she reminded herself, as James suddenly rushed forwards with a burst of energy. The target barely had enough time to release a scream as his gloved hand curled around the man's neck. He slammed him into the exit to the ceiling, just enough to jostle the man.

Lucy huffed as she dropped down onto the roof, rolling across it.

"I should've won that." She claimed–and she would've, if she hadn't been lost in her own thoughts.

James tilted his head back at her, rolling his eyes with amusement as the man beneath his hand inhaled large gulps of air. James kept his grip light, but the man didn't dare move from under his gloved hand.
