The pack was almost vibrating with expectation as the days went by. They were surrounded by fighting, men no one attacked their house directly. They felt something big coming. It was like the small fights around the city simply were to distract from the fact that there were more important things happening outside of the city.

They had been indoors for four days. Mingi was about to go crazy, and no one had trouble understanding why. Hongjoong had to use all of his alpha power to keep him calm at times, just to let him sleep a little. Livv soon felt better and they were planning to leave.

«What do we do?» San asked at breakfast one morning. «Should we take a car?»

«No. We're going north. A car will only hinder us. We travel faster as wolves.»

They all nodded.

«For Livv a car would be better, but... I still think we need to go north on foot, as wolves.» Hongjoong looked at every one of them, trying to take inn their emotions, their worries. It was a lot, too much to process and take into account.

«It'll limit how much we can bring with us,» Yunho said.

«Some of us an carry a pack,» Woo said. «Maybe the omegas? Then the alphas are free to protect us if needed? That's usually how it goes anyway, right?»

«Good idea.» Hongjoong nodded. «But lets pack lightly. One outfit each. We can sleep as wolves so we don't need to think about heat. Food must be simple. We'll lock down the house as best we can, but there are no guarantees.»

They worked effectively. Wooyoung and Yeosang made everyones packs ready. One by one they shifted into their wolves and got the packs strapped on. Hongjoong and Jongho took one last walk through the house, closing and locking up what they could.

Yunho was glad he had already shifted when he took one last look at the house. Wolves didn't cry. Would they ever come back? He hoped so, but it was impossible to know. They had put their valuables in the cell in the basement. No one would be able to break into it, but at some point all reserves of power would run out. It wouldn't last forever.

They snuck through the city, avoided other wolves, but as they came closer to the north side of the city, it got harder.

«It's like they know where we want to go.»

«Then we'll have to go around. Let's head south,» Hongjoong decided. «Jongho, take the lead.»

And that's how they ended up going in the exact opposite direction from where they really wanted to go. They had to keep up a high pace, but they got out of the city without having to fight. They were seen, and even followed for a while, but together they were strong. They had the advantage of being an experienced and close-knit pack, and they had worked with surveillance of the city for a while now. They knew it well.

Livv was the reason they had to take a lot of breaks. Mingi was getting extremely frustrated.

«Let me go alone,» he said to Hongjoong. «I'll travel much faster alone.»

«Not going to happen, Mingi. We're going to save her, but we have to do it together.»

«She's carrying my pup!»

«I know, Mingi. We're going to save them.»

When they stopped for the night in the outskirts of a village, hiding in a barn, Livv was out immediately. She was absolutely worn out. The alphas gathered outside. They talked through the link, but still needed to be by them selves.

«I don't think Mingis entirely wrong,» San said. «We'll never get north this way. We should split up.»

«We are stronger together,» Hongjoong insisted.

«We all agree, but we're still only as strong as our weakest member. Right now that is a serious problem. No one is saying to abandon Livv, but I still think we should split up.»

«Don't you see that it's impossible for me to split the pack in two?!» Hongjoongs desperation spoke of his love for the pack.

«I'll take care of Livv.»

Hongjoong, Mingi, Jongho and San all looked at Sunwoo. She continued:

«I have family further south. I'll bring her there.»

«I'm not sure I'm comfortable sending you two out alone.»

«I promise I will guard her with my life. She is special to me, I think you all know that by now.»

Hongjoong was concerned, but he really wanted to find Helena too. Livv, poor thing, made that difficult. This was the right thing to do, and Sunwoo would look after her. Nobody loved her pack like Sunwoo did.

«Okay, we'll do as you suggest. Sunwoo will bring Livv south to her family. The rest of us will go north. Does everyone agree?»

They all confirmed.

«We should agree on a time and place to meet, now that the pack is splitting up,» San suggested.

«We can't be certain the city is safe, so I don't think that'll be the right place,» Hongjoong thought out loud.

«What about Ellinors forrest?» Jongho suggested.

«Excellent,» Hongjoong nodded. «No one knows how long we'll be apart, so I suggest every half year as a possible meet up. Midsummer and new years?»

«Good. I hope we'll come north before midsummer,» Sunwoo said. «But if not, we'll come at the next opportunity. We'll come back to you.»

«Now, I want everyone to rest tonight. Nobody leaves until sunrise. Who will take first watch?»

Jongho immediately volunteered, and the others went inside to rest. Hongjoong went to Yunho, crawling close to him. Yunho felt safe with Hongjoongs safe warmth close to him.

Sunwoo went to Livv and took over for Woo, who had been looking after her.

«Are you asleep, my love?» she asked in the link between them. Livv smiled, half asleep.

«Maybe a little.»

«Sleep, my dear. Tomorrow will feel so much better when you get some rest.»

«With you next to me, it already feels better.»

«When you're stronger, I'll make you mine. If I may.»

«You know you may.»

Sunwoo and Livv left first. They didn't have too many days ahead of them on the road to get to Sunwoos family. They planned on a slow pace, so not to tire Livv too much. It was emotional splitting the pack, but Helena was in their thoughts. That made the decision easier. The remaining wolves talked about what route to pick.

«Does everyone feel that east is a bad idea?» Hongjoong asked the pack. Several of them nodded. «West then. I think it's a good idea too. Helena was taken north-west in the beginning, and Ellinors forrest is to the north. It's a good place to start.»
