«Alpha?» Ellinor shook Seonghwa and he opened his eyes confused.
«What's wrong?»
«Do you hear something? In the pack-link?»
He felt completely awake within seconds and tried to focus on what she was saying. Finally he shook his head.
«Did I gain access to the pack-link when mated?» she asked.
«I've heard that it's possible, but it's not common.»
«I could have sworn I heard Helena.»
«Helena?»
«Yes, or... I'm not sure, but something related to Helena. I can feel that she's alive and that she's headed... north-west.»
«Right now?»
«Yes, I felt her like a minute ago.»
«But not in the woods?»
«No, far outside of it.»
«Do you mean she's alone? Without the others?»
«I think so,» she said hesitantly. «I'm not sure, but I don't feel the whole pack there at least. But... she's not alone.»
«Do you feel the baby?»
«Yes.»
«We should follow,» he said.
«Yes, we should.» She swung her feet on the floor. They didn't bother to get dress because they would definitely need to go as wolves. Naked she ran around the cottage, filling their pack with a little clothes, food and equipment they might need. A fur rug could be useful. She was getting ready to take the pack, but Seonghwa stopped her.
«I'm carrying the pack,» he insisted. «Should we eat before going?»
«I think it's more important to not loose her.»
He nodded and shifted. Ellinor fastened the pack on him, they went outside and closed the door before she also shifted. Soon they were going north-west, out of her forest and into unknown lands.
«Do you hear her?» Seonghwa asked in the link while they ran, him in front and she behind. They alternated who rant first and last.
«No, but... I kind of feel her. Unless...»
«Unless what?»
«Unless it's the baby I'm feeling?»
«That could be it.»
«Yeah, because I can't directly communicate with her, but... it's definitely related to Helena.»
«You were the only one who knew Helena was pregnant from the start. Nobody knew anything, not even her.»
«But why is she going north? Do you think she's been captured?»
«I don't understand why anyone would, if nobody knows she's pregnant. Pregnancy makes her valuable, but...»
«They might have someone like you, who can feel it.»
«Maybe. It doesn't matter, we just have to find them.»
They spent a lot of energy keeping up their tempo going north-west. Seonghwa kept calling Helena through the pack-link. Ellinor tried listening with her own powers. Maybe she had something extra when it comes to pregnancies and babies? She had never known, but she hadn't been around other wolves the last 10 years.
Seonghwa came to an abrupt stop, his ears pointing forward. Ellinor stopped behind him, not making a sound. She understood he was using the link. She tried to listen, but she only had that tiny feeling of the baby going north.
«North,» she finally suggested to him.
They started running again, but Seonghwa was distracted. Ellinor said nothing, just took the lead while he was busy. Finally she felt he was done.
«Did you reach her?»
«Partially,» he said. «She is almost unconscious, but she wakes up every now and then. She says she's being taken north on a big wolf, and that she sees three other wolves around them. There might be more, she doesn't know.»
«Then we're closer?»
«Absolutely. Can you feel the baby?»
«Only that they are moving north.»
«Then we have the direction from two different sources. It should be accurate. Do you need a break soon, my love?»
«Not yet.»
They moved north at large speed, but now there was no doubt that there were a lot of wolves close by. Soon they had to make detours and be much more careful. The speed went down. They needed rest too.
Seonghwa kept watch as Ellinor slept by his feet. Then Ellinor did the same for him. They weren't able to completely relax, and the last few weeks in Ellinors woods had given them an abundance of energy. They soon kept on running north, further and further away from the city, into the mountains.
