Mingi was the first one to lift his nose. Hongjoong soon sensed the same.
«It's urgent. Let me go,» Mingi said.
«You can go,» Hongjoong said. «But we'll be right behind you.»
With the freedom his alpha had given him, Mingi put absoloutely all he had in his sprint towards his mate. He felt her pain now, and it didn't take long for him to be within reach of their link.
«Helena, love, we're on our way.»
«Hurry, they're coming!»
The others threw off everything they were carrying, didn't even take the time to hide it before sprinting towards their pack members.

It was Ellinors idea. They quickly realized they wouldn't have time to get Helena to safety before the hunting pack would catch up to them. Ellinor had them stop at the highest tree they found there.
«Climb, Helena. Now!»
Seonghwa used his alpha power, they didn't have time for her to think about this. Helena winced, but did as he said. She got a few meters up from the ground, still visible, but she couldn't be reached from down there. You'd have to shift out of your wolf and climb as a human to get to her. Ellinor and Seonghwa were ready to defend her with their lives.
«Love,» Seonghwa said and nuzzled into her neck. «I want to tell you to leave.»
«But you won't. Helena needs the both of us. If we die now, we die together.»
«I love you.»
«I love you too, Seonghwa.»
They tried to gather what little energy they could while waiting for the inevitable. Up in the tree Helena sat, holding on for dear life. If she couldn't stay conscious, she would fall.
«Mingi!» Helena said through the pack-link.
«What?» Seonghwa was confused.
«Mingi's coming!»
Seonghwa gave Ellinor the message, and it gave them hope and renewed energy. Soon Seonghwa too heard Mingi in the pack-link.
«Mingi!»
«Is Helena with you?»
«Yes, we have her. There's a pack coming.»
«I'll be right there. The others are also coming.»
«Everyone?»
«Not everyone.» It was too much to explain now, he had more than enough with getting through the forest as quickly as possible. «But a lot of them.»
«They are here!» Seonghwa said.
He didn't have time to say anything else, the attack was on them.
Ellinor and Seonghwa stood with their tales against the tree, the other pack was circling around them, and the circle kept getting smaller. Seonghwa counted eight wolves of different sizes, but there could be more.
«Eight?» Ellinor said.
«I think so. We just have to make it till the others get here.»
«We can do it.»
He appreciated her attitude. As she snarled at one of the wolves that was getting too close, he too was ready.
