«I know you're in pain.»

«It's not so bad.»

«You forget I can feel your pain through our mating link, Ellinor. Is it the ribs?»

«Yes, one or two.»

«Broken?»

«I don't know, but nothing else is hurting.»

«Will you tell me when you need to stop?»

«At this pace I can keep going for a while.»

«Yes, maybe you can, but don't push too hard, Ell»

«I won't, love.»

He could almost feel her smile, even though wolves didn't exactly smile. He was so grateful that they were both still alive.

«Do you agree that it's a good idea to go to your forest?»

«Yes, alpha. We can defend ourselves there. But I really want to avoid having anyone follow us there.»

«I can't feel anyone following us anymore.»

«Me neither, but that just makes me suspicious.»

«Me too. Still, what matters most right now is to get Helena to safety, inside, where there's warmth and food and security.»

It was so long since she had been part of a pack that it took her some time getting used to the feeling. Messages were exchanged so naturally between them, and she could finally be a part of it.

«Where is Sunwoo?» Seonghwa asked the pack.

«Sunwoo brought Livv south to family. Livv was injured and she was slowing us down. We found this to be the best way to deal with this. They wanted it that way.»

«And what about Arian?» Ellinor asked. She wasn't a part of the pack back then, and Seonghwa couldn't be certain that what he had felt was true, so he hadn't said anything. Or maybe he was just coward.

«Dead. He died in the first attack on the city, when Helena was taken and Livv injured, and you two were stopped from returning to us.»

The grief was echoing between them in the voice that no one could ever fill.

«Let's take a break,» Hongjoong decided when it started getting dark. Jongho was probably tired, not that he said anything about that, and they all needed foot and water. Yeo and Woo made sure everyone had something to eat. Ellinor took care of Helena and her wounds, and then they all shifted back to their wolves. Mingi slept close to his mate, keeping her warm and safe. She was still too tired to shift into her wolf.

Ellinor and Seonghwa curled up together, finally back with the pack. The peace that came with being so many wolves together felt wonderful. Even though they were still on the run, this was completely different from when it was just the two of them.

They rested a few hours. San and Woo took first shift, then Hongjoong and Yunho did. They all felt better, ready to continue, when their alpha woke them. They all felt wolves getting closer. Jongho insisted on still carrying Helena, it didn't cost him much. Soon they were off again, only stopping to drink a few times, but keeping a rather high pace throughout the night and into the next day.
