«How did we not know there were two pups in there?»
Ellinor looked at Yunho and then Seonghwa.
«It's hard to say,» Yunho said. «But I should have seen it. I'm really sorry, Ellinor.»
«You did nothing wrong, Yunho! I'm the one who should have known, they were inside of me! If it hadn't been for you, Yunho, I never would have made it.»
«I'm not the one who ended up saving your life, though,» Yunho said and they all looked at the little girl on Ellinor's chest.
The boy was so tiny, his hair almost black and his skin golden, but the girl was even smaller. She had feathery hair on her head. While the boy had looked at them every now and then, the youngest had been asleep the entire time after the birth. Maybe it tired her to have saved Ellinor's life? Ell worried, but Yunho said she had a strong and calm heartbeat. The two were small in size, but they seemed strong.
«She shifted from wolf to human,» Yunho said. «That is supposedly not possible for a small child.»
«I've never heard of it before, but what is the reason that it doesn't happen when children are young?» Ellinor looked at Yunho who knew so much about so many things.
«Because shifting is controlled på will. You have to know what you want. A newborn has no notion of will. They don't know the difference between a human and a wolf. Most children don't even know they have a wolf until they're four or five years old.»
«And still she did it. And she even asked Livv to put her on her mother's chest.»
It seemed unbelievable, but they had all seen the miracle happen. At the moment the child had touched her mother's skin, Ellinor had come back to life. She might not have actually been dead yet, but she had been close. Now Ellinor seemed fine. The bleeding had stopped and she was feeling exceptionally strong.
«Whatever you did, my little one, thank you.» Ellinor kissed her baby's head, enjoying the warmth of her skin against her lips. She smiled as the little girl slowly opened her eyes. Then she couldn't help but gasp. «Seonghwa? What does this mean?»
Werewolves normally got their eye color somewhere between the age of five and eight. Their family might often have a strong feeling that the child might be an alpha, omega, or beta ahead of time, but you could never be sure until the color presented itself.
No wonder gathered around the bed to look at the twins and see this miracle. On the day of her own birth, Ellinor and Seonghwa's daughter looked up at them with golden amber eyes, their color so strong, yet with large specks of red. It was fascinating, and they seemed to change every time she looked at someone else. None of them had seen anything like it before.
«She's clearly a beta,» Yunho said. «She can even heal. There is no doubt.»
«But she might be more. We all saw her white fur. There are... no white wolves.» Hongjoong was thinking out loud and Seonghwa looked at him with worry in his eyes.
«What the hell does all of this mean?!»
«We have no idea,» Hongjoong admitted.
«You guys,» Ellinor said as she was looking at the two babies. «It doesn't matter. They are here, they are healthy and we're going to figure this out together. She says not to worry.»
«What?!» Seonghwa looked shocked by Ellinor's words.
«Yeah, well, not exactly says, but... she's conveying that feeling at least,» Ellinor said. «You try to hold her now, see if you can feel it too. Come on, try it.»
Seonghwa wanted to say no, he was scared. The babies were so tiny, they looked fragile. They had not yet been bathed or swaddled, but as soon as Yunho helped him pick up the little bundle, he noticed nothing else. All he could see was her little face, how awake she seemed.
«Let me hold them both,» Seonghwa said, hardly even knowing what he was saying. He just knew he had to. Yunho helped him, and soon he was sitting in a chair with both of his children in his arms. The dark-haired boy was sleeping calmly, but his little sister was looking up at her father with sparkling eyes.
The room was quiet. It was like time stood still. Ellinor felt some of it, she had the parent child-link to the twins and the mating link to Seonghwa. But even the others in the room, who only shared the pack link with Seonghwa, could feel something happening. Seonghwa was looking at his daughter, completely absorbed in her presence. They saw him glance at the boy before looking back into her amber eyes.
When Seonghwa finally looked at Ellinor he had tears in his eyes.
«Her name is Haneul,» he said. «And this is Dal. He is the heir to the throne, and she is the future.»
The end.
