Things weren't so bad for a bit. Didn't last long though. I don't know what I did to fuck it all up, but I did something. I-- I don't know. I just don't fucking know..
The two teens walked into the small house, a trailer if anything, and into the living room. "Here it is, in all it's glory!" Sarah said with pride. The place was fairly clean, but not the type of clean that expects guests. It was cozy clean. "This place is nice.." Alex mumbled aloud. "Thanks!" Sarah responded. He didn't think he was heard, and jumped at the response. Usually he was lead to believe people couldn't hear him when he mumbled things, but maybe he was just ignored. He didn't know. Hell he didn't even care, it's over and done with anyways. He walked further into the living room and looked around. "Go ahead and make yourself comfy, Alex. Tanya ain't here right now, they're at work until 10." Tanya? Oh wait yeah, the roommate. He nodded and walked over to the couch and sat down. Sarah had walked into the kitchen to do something. He waited patiently, like a dog, for Sarah to reappear. "Yo you want somethin' for lunch?" Sarah called from the kitchen. "I-I'm good!" Alex called with his usual stutter. Who knows why he still stuttered. He was getting out of it of course.
He had his hands clasped together and resting over his knees-- erm-- his elbows on his knees and his back hunched over with his hands between his legs. Yeah. He waited more until she eventually walked out into the living room and sat on the couch next to him. "You sure you don't want anything? I made an extra sandwich if you want it." She said. "Nah." He answered. She shrugged and turned on the TV. She sat back and ate her lunch, Alex paid attention to the way she leaned back. Her legs hung lazily off the couch, slightly spread. Lazy type, got it. He sat back on the couch as well, sort of mocking her posture. She hasn't noticed. "So tell me more about yourself, Alex. Where do you come from?" She asked. "Colorado." She stopped. "Wait, so you aren't a Nevadan? You look like one." She said as she turned her head to look at him. "I turned this way about 5 months ago. It's... weird." He answered. "So-- you were a human before?" "Yeah?" "How's it like?" Her excited curiosity grew. "We have eyes, and noses, and our skin isn't gray-" He said. To him this was normal, but to Sarah this was a completely alien concept. "That's so strange, I bet humans look beautiful in an odd way, huh?" She said with a smile as she continued to wolf down her lunch. "I mean-- I guess? Eyes can be really pretty, along with actual faces. The warm colors are nice too." He said. Sarah just watched him talk and listened to him like a child listening to a story.
"That is so sick! How many humans have you seen here in Nevada?" She asked semi-jokingly. "Uhh, maybe like 5 or 6? I've seen more but they're all in Vegas." He said. "YOU'VE BEEN TO LAS VEGAS?!" She exclaimed. Oh boy. He sort of flinched when she yelled, sinking into the couch. "Y-yes I've been to Las Vegas. I w-would rather not t-talk about it." He stammered. "Oh. My bad." She said regretfully. "It's ok-" He said. Once again cutting himself off. "But anyways, besides Vegas, how long have you been in Nevada?" "As long as I've been like this." He said as he pointed to his face. "You've only been a grunt for 5 months? Yeesh." She said. She chuckled as she spoke, a sweet giggle more like it actually. She sure did like cracking jokes. "Yeah. Still getting used to it." He said quietly. She smiled and looked over at him, her gentle gaze resting upon his now slightly rough face. "You'll adapt just fine. You've made it this far, I don't see how you'll blunder in the future." She reassured him. Something about the way she spoke and how she comforted him was addicting in a way. He wanted it more, honestly, and there was a strong feeling of safety he felt around her too. He needed this to stay. He was desperate to keep this feeling of safety and security alive. "Hey uhm- I know we just met and all- but is it alright if I crash here tonight? I don't exactly got anywhere to go right now--" He said shyly. "Of course you can stay here tonight! Go ahead and make yourself at home here, Tanya shouldn't mind you being here!" She said with an expression of gold. She looked so happy to deliver that news to him, so joyful to be around this boy. Why? Why did she seem to like him so much? Everything was so confusing to Alex, he didn't know how to process it in the first place let alone investigate further into it. He just let it be for now as he slacked his body against the sofa. He watched the TV intently with Sarah. For the next half an hour they just chilled and watched the show that played on the large tv screen.
A single gaming console sat below the screen, and a dvd player. The console appeared to be an xbox, but who knows what it was. A stack of green game cases sat stacked in a slightly messy pile next to the console, along with a shelf that contained various dvds. Upon further inspection, the place was actually pretty decorated. There were various things hanging on the wall, rugs, shelves, tables, etc. It was all displayed neatly around the house. Some shelves had glass doors over them, display cabinets actually, and they had a lot of knick-knacks in them. The overall aesthetic of the house was pretty modern, but still cozy at the same time. It was a nice sight. Alex liked looking at all the little things everywhere, wondering how everything was still clean despite the house having so many things spread out everywhere to liven the place up. He looked to his right at the kitchen, observing the decor in there as well. The kitchen looked so cozy, and to the left was the hallway. The hallway was oddly bland and blank. Maybe they just ran out of decorations? Who knows. "Enjoying the place?" Sarah had asked. Clearly she noticed Alex observing his surroundings. "O-oh-- yeah--" He said quickly. He blushed lightly out of embarrassment and stared down at his own hands. "You're good! Go ahead and look around if you want." He looked up to hear her say that. He nodded and with that, he got up and left. To wander around the house and explore. He walked through each and every room. One caught his eye. He assumed because of the boxes of the other room, that was the roommate. However the one that had piqued his attention was-- what he assumed to be-- Sarah's. He looked at the room to see it was such a big contrast from the rest of the house. Instead of being warm and cozy, and comforting, it was dark. Cold. Gloomy at that. So weird. Maybe Sarah just likes dark and gloomy spaces? He flipped a light switch on, but it hasn't turned on the main lights. It lit up led lights that were strung all around the room, revealing each and every detail in it. The soft yellowish glow of the lights was the one factor that had made this room fit in with the rest of the place. Now it didn't feel so different. He could get used to this for sure.
