Laying there on the ground with her face blown open was Tanya. Finally she had come home, but this was not the way she should've come home. Her whole face was missing, the only thing that was visible was her insides from the neck up. Her skull was caved in and heavily damaged, blood and brains and chunks of flesh all over the place. The whole area was a huge mess, and it was almost impossible for Alex not to get any of it on himself. In fact since he was on his knees on the ground next to her, he was in a puddle of blood and rainwater. Without a doubt she was dead, but the thing that Alex had noticed was that she was still going stiff in a way. Whoever was running away from the house must've shot her.
~Safe to read~
He felt some sort of pain deep within his gut at the gruesome sight, she wasn't supposed to go like this. She didn't deserve to die just yet, she was still so young and she had so much potential. There were still things she had to do in life. Her death made Alex rethink some things, those people he killed.. they probably had a life ahead of them too. In their cases he was the unknown murderer and the victim was like Tanya. Most likely innocent, at least more innocent than him. Their friends and their family left to confusedly mourn the loss of someone they love so much, unaware of what menace was having a bad day and decided to take whatever they had saved up for killing that person in specific.
To honor someone he cared deeply about even without realizing it at first, he buried her somewhere nice and undisturbed, making a grave with flowers and everything. But one thing stood out. Tanya always wore earrings with upside down crosses. So he made a cross out of some nearby sticks and such and planted it upside down in the grave. He carved "May you rest in peace knowing I will avenge your death." On the cross with a pocket knife he had for some reason. He stared down at the grave, his sadness slowly churning in his stomach, producing anger and pain.
He had to avenge her, somehow. He had to find out who killed her and--
Wait. Did Sarah shoot her?
As far as Alex knew, Sarah was really the only person who had problems with Tanya. The woman was locked in her room for a while, and Sarah was the only one with keys to the rooms in the house. Did Sarah murder her out of anger for escaping? Oh dear god, is his lover a vicious and lying murderer?! No, that's not like Sarah! She wouldn't hurt a fly..! Right? It got overwhelming to think about these things, so much so that the boy was on the edge of breaking down again.
He held it back though, bottling it up and leaving it here at the grave. He walked off towards the house again, seeing the mess that used to be there was strangely gone. Either an animal ran off with Tanya chunks or someone came by and cleaned stuff up, but he figured it was an animal, probably the same one that may have scratched his legs up so bad. The boy walked up to the front door and inside the house, finding Sarah sitting happily on the couch. Clueless. Something didn't sit right with Alex, so he didn't tell her that Tanya had been brutally killed. He just sulked over and sat down next to her, leaning against her for comfort.
"What is it, big guy?" She asked with a smile and a glint of joy in her voice. "Bad day." He answered quietly, his voice trembling and broken. He sounded like a mix of scared and sad, which he pretty much was. Eventually he was clinging onto this poor girl for dear life, his breathing fast and his anxiety probably the highest it's ever been. And what did Sarah do about it? Nothing. She just watched TV as her boyfriend had a panic attack. She did run her hand through his hair for a bit, and that helped. More than it should've but less than enough.
"Have you been thinking about your parents again?" She asked. This was a bit unsettling to Alex, he was happy that she knew about the things that made him upset, but when he's in a state like this do you really think bringing up his parents is a good idea? It's like you're trying to cause him to break down at that point honestly. "No." He said already about to cry. Now he is thinking about them, along with Tanya. Poor Tanya, the one person he didn't kill. "What's bothering you so much? Did you get hurt?--" "I don't wanna talk about it." He said as his voice cracked a bit. He hid his face from Sarah as the tears started to form in his eyes.
He felt the gentle hands from the other cup his face and turned it up towards her own. "Just think about the happy things, if you act happy you'll start to feel happy. Trust me!" Okay what. Sarah had given some of the worst advice to come out of her mouth yet, though it was too damn tempting to take it. Alex already tried to act okay despite being terrible at it, and he figured Sarah did that too. And thinking about lying to himself like that right now only added onto his bad mood.
So he.. broke down. Right in front of her. Sort of. He kept his composure for a surprisingly long time, however he did eventually cover his face with his own hands as Sarah was still holding his head up. By a surprisingly long time I mean about 15 seconds, it's surprising because it's Alex. He shielded himself from her eyes, silently starting to cry in the shelter of his own depression. At least that had a more fulfilling welcome than the arms of his lover. He wasn't comforted by her arms around him, up until she ran her fingers through his hair. That was something he didn't expect to comfort him, honestly. It did though. A little bit at the very least, it did some good. She cooed him, telling him that everything was going to be ok. Nobody will hurt him. Although she was most likely going to be the first person who would hurt him.
He hid his sorrows away from her sight into her shoulder, of course not her chest although that physically would've been the less awkward place. Even when he's having a meltdown, the boy is still respectful. She rubbed his back and reassured him that nothing was out to get him, though despite her efforts to calm him down he just would not stop. He was quivering, and hyperventilating. He couldn't stop it either, the adrenaline was kicking his heart and the sights he saw today were gnawing at his stomach. He was trapped in a huge whirlwind of emotions and regrets, hate and sorrow, and most of it was his fault. If not all of it.
Except for Tanya.
