The following day after school had finished, Luke found himself getting waved over by Ava at the front gates to the building. He was still worried about Brooke, but he had noticed that since he had saved her from Lewis, he hadn't spent alot of time around Ava. Perhaps this was due to his newly found mission to save the world, but he still felt bad for his childhood friend.
He smiled brightly and hurried over to her, she immediately smiled back and blushed slightly.
"Ava! I'm sorry I've not been around much. I missed you!" He picked her up and spun her around. She reacted by gripping his shoulders tightly and hid her face in his neck. After he put her back down she cleared her throat and composed herself.
"Y-You could've..seen me a-any time you wanted.." She replied meekly.
Luke felt another stab of guilt, but promised himself to make it up to her.
"Wanna walk home together?" He asked.
"I was gonna ask you the same!!!" Ava quickly hid her face again, she didn't mean to sound so enthusiastic about the idea.
Luke toon no notice and started walking, Ava hurrying along beside him.
"I- I missed spending time with y-you.." Ava's voice was almost inaudible, but Luke caught every word.
"I missed it too. I'm sure Rosie would have missed you as well."
Ava stayed quiet for a moment.
"Yeah."
Luke mentally kicked himself. Did he say something wrong? Surely not.
The awkward silence that lingered in the air was broken by both of their phones buzzing simultaneously. Curious, they unlocked their phones and saw a message from Brooke sent to the group chat. Luke's heart skipped a beat, she was okay and had found the next elemental source.
He swiped on the message and started reading. However his stomach started to feel upside down the more he read.
Brooke: You won't be seeing Brooke ever again. She's been dealt with for her crimes against the time laws accordingly. No one else needs to be hurt. As for Luke Wilson's powers, he can keep them for all we care. Without Brooke, you can't interfere with our world anymore. Your world will collapse on itself thanks to the powers stolen from the artifact that belonged to this realm. Do not try to find us, it's an excerise in futility.
The message ended there. Luke's hands were shaking and his whole body seemed tense. Ava noticed this and quickly pulled his phone away and held both of his hands.
"C-Calm down, we will find a way to save her. I'm sure she's okay.."
Luke almost snapped in anger at her, but one look at her soft and scared expression made him calm down very quickly. He pulled her into a hug which she reciprocated. After a moment they broke apart and hurried back to his house, messaging the group members individually telling them to meet them there.
After around thirty minutes or so, everyone was in the Wilson's living room.
"W-what are we supposed to do..." Ava broke the silence first. An abnormality for her.
"If you ask me I think it's very cliche. This is something right out of a-" Lucille's voice was cut off by another.
"Good thing no one asked you then." Luke shot her a sharp look.
"I wanna go find her! She's the reason I'm even in this reality and I wanna go home!" Ruby stated flatly.
Rosie rolled her eyes, "Thought you'd wanna stay with how cosy you got to my brother."
