The recent thunderstorms hadn't taken any breaks since the girls meeting at the café in town, in fact that had debatably gotten worse. The absence of clear skies and white clouds had not helped in clearing up everyone's mood, especially with one of their friends missing.

Rosie had taken time off of school to look for her brother more often, and she needed to look after Ruby full time now too. Of course, Ruby wasn't a child, but with her being from Earth Zero it was best to keep her under surveillance in the event of anything untoward happening.

I'm other news, the towns national laboratory had been rather active as of late. It seemed they were conducting new experiments and testing with new particles or something? Who knows.

Sophie had been keeping well, scrounging for food and meals whenever she could. Funnily enough, the events that led her to her current predicament involved being hungry.....

==================================

"Hey, kid! You gonna buy something or what!? You're holding up the line!" The rather bedraggled looking shopkeeper barked at her.

Sophie spun on her heel to see that she indeed was holding up a line behind her. She moved out of the way apologetically and heard many tuts and sighs. It wasn't easy being a street kid, but of course such privileged people wouldn't care about all that nonsense.

As she was about to leave the store, counting this as an unsuccessful food run, she noticed the same brown haired boy from the café out of her peripheral vision. She didn't know why but excitement flooded her veins and she rapidly rushed over to him despite him not knowing her.

She stopped just short of him, seeing that he had put the hood of his jacket over his head. He was staring around at the products, and checking the ceiling occasionally. Could he perhaps be planning to steal something like her? She now felt even more drawn to him.

"If you wanna get something to eat, you'd be best going to the bakery down the road. There's a lot less to choose, but less cameras." Sophie whispered to herself more than him.

The boy stopped briefly, then carried on walking past the aisle.

Definitely a rude act, but this small rain cloud couldn't dampen Sophie's spirits.

"What's your name? Perhaps we could be friends!"

What was she saying? She normally kept to herself!

The boy stopped again, but this time gratified the redhead with a response.

"Take some advice: stay away from me."

Sophie frowned. It was odd behaviour for sure, but she didn't deem his words threatening, it was more so a warning. Why would he push her away? Did she come across annoying? Perhaps he just hated bright and hyper girls. Whatever the case, Sophie gave up on her current attempt and tried something new.

She waited until she saw the boy eyeing up something, then assisted him in his "purchase".

Making sure no one was looking, she clicked her fingers and a small flame appeared in her palm. Crouching behind an aisle with a blind spot, she waited for the smoke to glide up into the smoke detectors.

Water gushed down and alarms starting howling, the entire store fell into disarray. Sophie looked over at the boy and noticed him slip food into his pockets and dash out of the store. She grinned at her assistance and chased out of the glass door after him.

She glanced in every direction after leaving the store, her wet bangs covering her vision slightly. She could faintly hear the shopkeeper and customers screaming behind her for "Smoking" on the premises. If only they knew the truth of what she ACTUALLY did...
