Gerard sat with his head leaning against the cold, school bus window, watching the blurs of green, brown, and gray streak past him. His earbuds were in, sufficiently blocking out the sounds of students he hated and the rumbling of the vehicle besides the gentle acoustics of the music. He rarely took the bus, like, ever, but his mom had had to borrow his car today so he had no other option. Regrettably.
Acoustic music was perfect for school buses. He didn't know why.

He closed his eyes.

A  song came on and he grinned like a moron, which he tightened his lips to because he was in public.

You're a part-time lover and a full-time friend

The monkey on your back is the latest trend

Don't see what anyone can see in anyone else

But you.

It was a song he loved, however odd it was.

Somehow it made the world, the colors going by outside the window, the hard brown leather of the seat softer and warmer. He wished things looked like that all the time.
