"So, um. Pennywise, huh?"

"Yeah."

Great start.

It was hard to see Pete's face due to both the amount of clown makeup and the dim lighting, so even when they went up to houses to get candy, he couldn't get a good look at what Pete looked like. Every minute or so, he would turn around to see where Gerard was.

He was still walking with Mikey. That was great and all, and Frank was happy he was finally bonding with his little brother, but what the hell was he supposed to say to Pete?

He stole a glance at the kid in clown makeup next to him.

"So, um. Play any instruments?"

It was worth a shot, right?

"Yeah, I play bass, and I'm teaching Mikey. You?"

"I play a little guitar, but I'm more into drawing."

"I can't draw to save my life," said Pete. "But I like to write."

The sound of footsteps behind them materialized, and they both turned around. Mikey and Gerard were behind them, catching up.

Pete instantly fused to Mikey and they walked ahead as they had before.

"We talked it out," said Gerard, his voice low. "I think we hate each other a little less."
"That's good," Frank said as they approached another house.

The woman who opened the door looked like she was 100 years old. "Aren't you two a little old to be Trick or Treating?"

Frank and Gerard looked at each other.

"Probably."

The woman rolled her eyes, and gave a caramel each to Frank and Pete before shutting the door. Mikey reached into his bag and pulled out the gold-wrapped candy. "Ew, it's old lady candy anyway. You dodged a bullet."

He tossed the candy back in his bag.

Gerard smiled. The moon was bright, the street was cold, it was Frank's birthday, and for the first time in a long time, he had a little brother again.
