Gerard wanted to conduct an experiment.

The Experiment:

Theory: If Frank followed Gerard, he wanted to be friends. If he didn't, Frank was not interested in being friends.

Hypothesis: Frank would follow him.

Run-through and Data Collection: Frank had scurried to his feet, hurriedly shoving his sketchbook inside of his back, tripping on his shoes to catch up with Gerard, while also blowing a piece of his fringe out of his face.

Conclusion: Gerard Way had a friend.
