" I'm sorry Sal but I can't....."

I did not expect her to give me an answer back so soon after she asked to think about it. I thought she would take a day or two but it only took her a few hours and I really wanted to try convince her but I could not. While appealing to her earlier, I noticed the love in her eyes and thought that she would say yes but forgot to see the hurt and pain too. Which was clearly visible to me in this moment.

" Can I hold you?"

She broke into tears as soon as her head hit my chest and for the first time I realised the gravity of what I put this woman through. I understood and understood that simple words will not suffice anymore. If I wanted my family back I had to be about it, show how that I regret everything I put her through.

" Nandi?"

She suddenly felt heavy, she was asleep. Lately she has not been sleeping much. I guess that cry lifted some of the weight off of her shoulders. I helped lay back down before heading out to feed our daughter. Thanks to her always pumping breast milk.

" I lost a good woman."

After our first wedding anniversary I asked her to have my child, she agreed with no hesitation and I promised myself that I would give her the best things in life.

" When I asked your mother to give me children I always pictured her having a little girl like her."

Tears filled my eyes as I looked at the tiny human laying peacefully in my arms.

"Finally that's happened and she can't fully enjoy the moment because I ruined it for her but I'll fix it. I'll give you the perfect family. The one you and your brother deserve."

After burping her I placed her back in her incubator. Even though she was currently breathing on her own, she was still underweight but the doctor assured us she was doing well regardless. When I got back to her room she was still asleep so I decided to go home and get her a change of clothes. Since her admission she had handed the house keys to me for safekeeping and emergencies.

" Sal?"

Somebody called out my name as I waited on the automated main gate to open. Nandi lived on an estate but had a wall boundary with lockable gates. I turned to find that woman I met at the farewell party. I just do not recall what her name was.

" Hello."

" Sal it hasn't been that long for you to have forgotten me."

" Sorry. I'm bad with names but I definitely remember you."

She smiled.

" I'll let it go this once. It's Scarlett."

" Scarlett. I knew it was a color. Are you here visiting family?"

The old me would have had her bent over in one of my properties but right now I was just making small talk. While hoping she does not try to have a full conversation with me.

" No, I moved in this week with my sister. It must be your ex who just gave birth. I heard from the lady across the street."

Price of fame, even people from other towns knew I was divorced.

" Yeah, I just came to collect her clothes and head back. See you around."

" Hopefully."

Just by her smile I could tell that she was trouble but I have been in too much trouble to let her take me back there. A few minutes later I was back with Nandi but surprised to find my mom with her.

" What are you doing here?"

" I came to see my daughter and granddaughter. Just because you were dumb doesn't mean we all are. Nan bye love."

My mom hated that we divorced and reminded me of my stupidity every time she saw me.
