Thankfully for the rest of the night Brie kept her distance and Niki's mood improved. The night turned out well and an hour later we were headed to a place where we would be both spending the night. I was afraid of taking her home to my place in fear that my father would show up and scare her away. As much as I was ready to live my life my way and was not going to be controlled by my father, I was not going to expose her to his cruelty, yet. I needed her to know that no matter what my father said or did I was never going to leave. Her hand rubbing the back of my neck startled me. I had my braids in a bun and had a fresh undercut just above the back of my neck.
" You're doing it again."
" Doing what?"
" Zoning out, you did quite a few times and a lot two nights ago."
As much as I tried to forget about my father, he occupied my mind constantly and I feared for our relationship if Niki ever came to know what my father is.
" I'm sorry just have a lot on my mind but just touch me like how you're touching me and I'll be fine."
" You know you can share with me whatever is bothering you. I promise to listen and help if I can. I won't be judgemental."
" I know baby and I promise you it's nothing I can't solve."
I said removing her hand from my neck, held then kissed it. Having her by my side was enough to ease my troubles and remind me that I had her. I covered her eyes with a handkerchief when we got to the house and helped her go inside while she constantly kept asking if she could look or trying to find out what I planned for her.
" Grass? Simi whose house is this and what are we doing in their backyard?"
" I told you I had something special planned be patient. You'll get all your answers soon."
After checking that everything was as planned I grabbed the bouquet of roses and got into position.
" You can remove the blindfold now."
" You put it on me but I should take it_Whaaa-"
She gasped when she noticed me in front of her on one knee. Instinctively she bit on her lower lip as her eyes began to sparkle.
" What's going on Simi?"
" You know I love you, even though we have been together for a few months I know you're exactly the woman I want to spend the rest of my life with. Two months after meeting you I got this house built for you, I know it was premature of me but I knew back then that I was going to make you my wife."
She wiped the tears off of her cheeks as she looked around the six bedroom from the outside and by the look on her face I could tell she liked it even though she was shocked.
" I thought getting down on one knee would be premature but Jan told me if I feel I'm ready then I shouldn't waste any second_ Nikiwe will you do me the honour of being my wife."
For a few seconds she just stood looking me without a word then helped me stand up without saying a word. Her arms wrapped around my neck and mine instinctively went to her thick waist. All I needed to hear was an answer but at the same time I did not want to seem like I was rushing her.
" Yes."
" Huh, sorry?"
" You zoned out again but I said yes, I will be your wife Simphiwe."
It was my turn to freeze but as soon as it registered in my head, I carried her upstairs bridal style to christian our new home.
