Grateful that my children were with Oli, I soaked my aching body in the bathtub. The upside to this divorce was the peace and quiet that currently engulfed my home, the opportunity to have a minute to myself and the peace of having a mind clear of wondering what they were up to while you tried to get a minute to yourself or dealing with them barging in just as you sit down on the toilet sit but I missed them dearly. Watching them leave whenever Oli could take them was hard but unfortunately this was our life now. The music playing through my phone stopped as a call came through. If it was not that I was expecting an important call, I would have ignored it." Hello?"
It was my divorce lawyer, who always made calls during the day but she did not call much either. She informed me that Oli wanted to contest the divorce and refused to return the divorce papers.
" So you're not sure if they were signed or not?"
Becca had told me that the papers were signed and as much as it hurt, that she had just simply signed them. The thought of having a quick divorce brought me comfort. Smiling through the tears. Which I have had a lot of recently. I cry every night at the thought of how easily another woman came in between my perfect marriage but then again was it ever perfect.
" Since she's contesting the divorce, wether they are signed or not won't make difference right?"
" No it's not filed or finalised, so she can contest."
She replied. I wanted this over and done for my own sanity. She had stepped out on our marriage and the last thing I wanted was us going to court to be reminded of this but she wanted this.
" So since it's the Christmas holidays soon and the courts will be closing, this means we'll probably get a date in January the earliest."
She informed that January is usually fully booked by now so we might get to go to court in February. Oli could not just let me have this after what she has put me through with her mother. I finalised the call and realised the water was now cold. Being that Nandi had invited me out to some dinner party, I put on a simple dinner dress. She said not to over dress. An hour later we were driving up a mountain headed to the most beautiful mansion.
" Whose house is this?"
" The lady I was telling you about the other day, Zipho. "
" I thought you said she has a girlfriend.?"
" Apparently they broke up the same day but even if she was in a relationship, she's not my type and so have no sexual interest in her."
" Well she did well because you can't just go around calling people out of their names just because they're talking to your partner."
" Well she apologised for her behaviour after ending it with her. She actually took the time to find my social media pages just to apologise."
" Yeah that must been hard."
She laughed knowing I was being sarcastic because as well known basketball wives were not hard to find on the socials. As soon as she showed the security the invite on her phone and they made a few taps on their tablet, a familiar face walked up to us with a huge smile on their face.
" Nice to see you made it beautiful."
" After you saved me, how could I not. This is my friend Noni."
She turned to me still smiling. While I was shocked to see her in the flesh after so many years.
" I knew that we would cross paths again."
She hugged us both.
