13 ~ Hailee

Lizzie POV

I'm not entirely too surprised at the greeting I just witnessed but I am surprised it made my stomach drop. Get a grip Lizzie, she's not yours.

I watch as they share a tight hug and Hailee slides her hands onto her face, looking at her closely like she's trying to see if she's okay.

Pam gets up and walks to the door to greet her and I watch as Hailee beams before bringing her into a hug too.

Mia wakes up from her little snooze and looks behind her, smiling when she sees our new guest...well new to me I guess.

I watch as they all give her hugs and Aiden turns to watch too, still munching on his food. He doesn't move though. "Hey Aiden." Hailee greets once she kicks off her shoes and sets down her bag. "How are you buddy?" She asks gently, completely ignoring my presence as she slides onto the seat Y/N was just sitting at.

"Hi Hailee. I'm eating my food Auntie Lizard made." He responds, not really answering her question but I don't think he cares.

"That's very nice of Lizzie to make you some yummy lunch. Did you say thank you?" She asks, taking me by surprise.

"Hm. No. Thank you Lizard." He directs towards me and I offer a smile.

"You're welcome bud. Hi Hailee, it's nice to meet you." I offer a greeting and she looks up at me.

"You as well. How was Doctor Strange filming?" She asks and it takes me by surprise but then I remember that she is now a part of the Marvel family.

"It was exhausting but I'm glad to have a break now. How was Hawkeye?" I return the question. I guess we are pretending like this isn't weird. But...does she even know about my history with her...Y/N?

"It was really fun. Renner is fun to work with." She comments with a nod. Y/N carefully sits next to her and they share a quick smile.

"He is. Would you like some food?" I ask and start scooping her a bowl of Mac and cheese. She nods so I slide it over to her and she offers a thank you.

Y/N shifts awkwardly and continues to eat her food. Mia takes a seat next to Aiden and starts to eat the bowl I set out for her too. All the seats are quickly taken up so I take my bowl and head outside to the porch to eat mine as they all catch up.

The door opens and I smile at Pam who joins me. "Sorry about that." She apologizes and I frown in confusion.

"About what?" I ask.

"Hailee." She shrugs.

"What about her? It's good that she's here right?" I decide. Y/N wanted her here and it's good that she has who she wants to comfort her.

"I mean...I guess. I'm not dumb though. I know why you're here." She reveals but it just confuses me more.

"Yeah, to help Y/N out." I confirm.

"No Lizzie. You love her." She decides and my body warms at the words.

"What? No. I. I don't love her, not how you think. I care about her but I. I have a fiancé and I love him." I deny.

"A fiancé that you left across the country to be with someone you haven't heard from in 9 years." She points out.

"That doesn't matter. I...we were. We. She still means a lot to me. We didn't choose to not be in contact this whole time. It was the NDA." I explain messily.

"So you didn't spend your time apart thinking about her? If she was okay?" She asks.

"I mean...sometimes. I. Yes, but that doesn't mean I love her." I deny again.
