It's been many years sing Lizzie and Y/N said goodbye. Lizzie is now a huge actress and engaged to Robbie Arnett while Y/N owns her own record company based in LA and NYC. What will happen when they meet again at an awards show where they are both n...
While we wait for our paintings to dry, Lizzie shifts to lay her head in my lap, closing her eyes to take in the beautiful day. I'm thankful it's so beautiful out, not too hot or too cold. The shade is perfect.
My eyes are settled on her face, her delicate features too alluring to ignore and I let my mind wander to possibilities.
For so long I haven't let myself think of the future. My future with anyone but myself. I never felt the need to think about it and now I think I realize why. I only wanted to think about a future with Lizzie, and without her in my life, thinking that way would only make me sad.
Where I retreated and engaged in defensive behaviors to protect my heart, Lizzie chose to try to find someone to make her happy. I can't fault her for choosing to deal with what happened differently. She did what she needed to do just as I did.
We chose different paths that led us back to each other anyway.
I comb my fingers through her hair gently as I check the time. We still have some time until our next activity, so I let her snooze in the beautiful weather that gradually gets cooler.
Her eyes flicker open when I trace over her eyebrow softly and I offer a soft smile as I get lost in her oceans.
"Are they dry now?" She asks and I nod.
"Probably." I decide so she slowly sits up and reaches to pick up her canvas. I reach around to get mine as well and we hold them up in front of us, ready to turn them around.
"You can't laugh." She warns.
"I wouldn't dream of it." I assure her.
"Okay, three." She starts
"Two."
"One."
We both turn our canvases over and I smile at the simple sunflower on her canvas.

"What?" I ask, not seeing a problem with it.
"It's beautiful...when did you learn to paint like that?" She asks and I shrug.
