The last month had flown by in a feverish collection of training. The second the four champions knew what the final task was, they set up two hours a day to practice spells as well as self defense and weapons training. Despite having different strengths, they were all somewhat equal in knowledge now. The last task was sure to be exciting!
Speaking of, the last task was set to be on the last day of finals, which Harry was taking despite the free pass the tournament gave them. After months of helping Hermione study, they would rather jump off the astronomy tower than miss the finals! They had just finished their last final of the day, history, when Harry was scooped up into a hug on the way into the Great Hall.
"Harry! It's been far too long!" Bill swung them around, a large grin on his face. Molly stood a little ways behind him, both smiling at the happy laughter that bubbled up out of them. "I managed to get a day off to watch you. Charlie can't make it, but he wants me to tell you to win this whole tournament just for the hell of it."
"Well now I have to win!"
The rest of the day was spent wandering around the castle and catching up. The last task would be after dinner, so they had the entire afternoon to spend goofing off. Harry was also introduced to Viktors and Fleur's parents.
Dinner was a chaotic mess with a great many students walking up to the champions to wish them luck. The four had decided to sit together, once again annoying the ministry officials at their show of unity, and helped distract each other from the anxiety of the task.
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the four were herded down to the quidditch pitch, which had been overgrown with hedges to create a maze. Cedric and Harry both winced at the sight of their precious quidditch pitch being eaten by vines and plants.
"Welcome to the final task of the TriWizard Tournament! The four champions must navigate this maze filled with twists, tricks, and dangerous creatures and retrieve the cup! Mr. Potter will go in first, having the most points, and then the others will enter in intervals of ten minutes! Ready Mr. Potter? Go!"
The hedges shifted to form an arch that they walked confidently through. Once inside the hedges, they closed up, leaving them trapped in a dimly lit pathway in silence. They took a deep breath before casting the Point-Me spell and taking off deeper into the maze.
It took them some time to run into something even remotely dangerous: a boggart. Though, going off the terrified scream it gave before literally scratching its way through the hedges, it was probably the same boggart from the year before. Despite the situation, Harry couldn't help but to stop and laugh for a short time. After a minute, they got back on track.
The others were in the maze with them. The sound of the starting cannon sounding every time one of them entered. It was now time for phase 1 of their master plan!
"When I say beat you say that ass! Beat"
"That ass!" Fleur's voice floated up from the pathway next to them. The two met up with a few well aimed Bombardas. The two continued to wander and call out a few 'chants' they had learned to find one another.
"Harry! Fleur! Have you guys run into Viktor? He tried to attack me."
"No, we haven't. We need to find him! Depending on what's going on, we might be able to help him."
The Point-Me spell's target was quickly changed to their other friend. Forming a line, the three began to quietly move through the maze as they hunted for their friend. They ran into a few small creatures and traps that they easily out maneuvered. Loud growling revealed where Viktor was.
He was hunched over slightly, looking pained, and seemed to be trying to fight whatever was causing him trouble. Fleur seemed hesitant to move closer, her veela side seeing the boy as a threat while Cedric knew the risks of getting close to him. Harry also knew the risks, but they couldn't care less when their friend was in danger.
"Sorry Viktor," the boy in question snapped to attention at the soft apology, low growling filling the air as Harry shot multiple Incarcerous jinxes at him. The other two helped to stun him before firing red sparks into the air and moving on.
Apparently, the maze didn't like that they were all working together and had decided to punish them for it. They were having hell getting through the amount of traps and tricks that flooded them as they fought their way to the cup. The cup was in sight when an acromantula attacked them.
Spreading out, they began to fire off cutting charms as rapidly as possible. Dodging and weaving around the spider's legs gracefully and calling out for the others to keep track of their conditions. Harry had to tuck into a sloppy roll to avoid being stepped on, twisting their ankle in the process. Finally, the acromantula went down as some of its legs gave out the three hit it with a few bombardas.
"Are you guys ok?"
"I hurt my ankle, but I can still walk."
"A little scratched up, but alright!"
The three moved over to the cup together before deciding who would get to win like adults. With a game of rock, paper, scissors! It was a very heated game of best two out of three! Fleur and Harry went first leading to Harry winning on their third round, then Harry and Cedric ended up battling it out in twelve rounds. Ultimately, Harry won, though Cedric and Fleur would say they barely won.
With a cheeky grin and a wave, Harry grabbed onto the cup and was teleported away. The landing was not great, their ankle gave out and they hit the ground harder than they had expected. The next thing they noticed after quite a bit of cursing and struggling to stand back up was the fact that they were in a graveyard.
This was not part of the plan! They were supposed to get transported back to the beginning of the maze! What the hell went wrong? Dumbledore was going to choke on his beard after this one!
A shuffling noise gained their attention. It was this slight warning that allowed them to dodge the Petrificus Totalus that was cast at them in time. Straightening up, they threw up a shield charm before trying to hit the damnable rat with a severing hex. The two traded spells back and forth, Harry clearly having the upper-hand.
It took a few minutes for Pettigrew to make a mistake they could capitalize on, the rat stumbled slightly over the uneven ground. With a quick Bat Bogey Hex followed by a stunner, Pettigrew went down with a loud thump.
"Wormtail!" An annoyingly high pitched voice called out from a bundle of cloth. Harry stepped forward, wand raised defensively. Laying in the cloth was what looked like a newborn infant, a very ugly newborn. The small body of Voldemort lay there, waiting for its resurrection.
