"Harry! Don't leave us!" Sirius's fake sobs echoed through the train station, drawing the attention of everyone on the platform. "You'll wither away at the school! Think about Moony!"
"Sirius, darling godfather of mine, if you don't lower your voice I'm telling Uncle Sev!"
Remus finally caught up to the two and pried a now begging Sirius from Harry. The adults quickly helped them onto the train, gave them a quick hug, and stood on the platform ready to wave off their kids, yes kids, the trio had been unofficially adopted by the two.
Harry, on the other hand, started their search for the others. It took a few minutes for them to find the compartment, but they were greeted with a blonde blur slamming into their chest. Luna lay half on top of them, grinning like a loon. She helped them up and shoved them into the compartment.
"Harry! How's your summer been?" Neville sat up straight, having been pouring over his copy of The Hobbit, with a bright smile on his face. "I've been quite busy myself."
"Busy doesn't begin to describe how my summer went. Though I'll show you something shocking!" Harry pushed their bangs out of their face revealing a smooth, scarless forehead.
The other two teens started talking at once, both excitedly asking how they managed to remove a curse scar. Harry quickly explained their summer, pinky swearing the two to secrecy, and enjoyed the easy atmosphere. Soon Hermione and Ron joined them before the train began to depart. The five waved out the window at their parents/guardians. The train ride was peaceful and uneventful after that.
Soon they were sitting in the great hall at their respective tables watching the first years be sorted. Today had the makings of being wonderfully peaceful and then fate intervened.
"I am pleased to announce," Dumbledore began as the last first year sat down at their table, a young Slytherin by the name of Malachai Drevens, "This year Hogwarts will be hosting The Triwizard Tournament! Only those who are seventeen or older may enter."
This declaration was met with loud yelling and grumbles from many of the six years and a few seventh years who had birthdays after the school year ended. A great many of the younger years were also complaining at what they deemed unfairness. Despite this, Dumbledore carried on with his little speech as if he hadn't plunged the school into disarray.
"The two schools who will also be taking part will arrive in a month's time. Only then will anyone be able to enter. Now, let the feast-"
He was cut off by the enchanted ceiling, screams were heard as loud rumbles of thunder shook the floor and streaks of lightning arched across the ceiling. The doors to the great hall were thrown open as a man with a peg leg and fake eye stomped inside. He pointed his wand at the ceiling and blasted it with an unknown spell, causing the storm to clear up there at least.
"Damn ceiling."
Every student tracked the man as he trudged up to the teacher's table. Dumbledore greeted him as if the two were old friends, which given their ages they probably were. The man hobbled to the last empty seat at the table. Dumbledore waved his hand and the food appeared, slowly getting the students back to their lively selves.
"Harry, what do you think about the new teacher?" Neville asked, a slight scowl on his face.
"I have a bad feeling about the entire thing, teacher, tournament, and all. I swear if this is another try to get me to follow his plan, I'll skin an old man!"
Of course, this was the moment that a small note appeared on their plate, 'inviting' them to have a discussion with the headmaster. Every single water glass around them shattered as their eye twitched, a few of the younger years startled while the older years began placing bets on if they would be needing a new headmaster tomorrow morning.
As soon as dinner was done, Harry stormed out of the Great Hall. Every single student from second year up mourned silently for the passing of Albus Dumbledore. The remaining teachers, all save for Snape and the new guy, watched on in horror as the Hall went completely silent.
Harry was waiting by the door to the headmaster's office when the three adults finally arrived. They allowed the adults to enter first before walking in and closing the door. They sat in the normal overstuffed armchair that they had grown very tired of sitting in.
"Now that we are all settled in, I believe we need to have a conversation. I have been keeping some information from you all and I deeply regret it. I did some research and I believe I have discovered how the dark lord survived."
"Oh wow, how ever did you figure it out," Harry snarked after a period of silence, clearly tired of Dumbledore's bullshit already.
"I'm glad one of you is taking this seriously. I believe that Voldemort created a sort of safety net for himself in case he were to be killed. He may have split his soul and placed pieces of it into different objects. If we can collect those pieces we can defeat the dark."
"I think you mean defeat the dark lord."
"Now Harry, dark magic needs to be made illegal. All it does is hurt people, I would have thought that you of all people would understand this!" Harry's eye began twitching again, their anger growing as the old bastard continued to spout ignorance.
"Did you know that three unforgivables were created for medical purposes? The three curses that are considered extremely dark were made to help people. Imperius would stop a patient that was a danger to themselves or others. Crucio would help with nerve damage, it's something that muggles discovered actually. And the killing curse is one of the most humane ways a person could die! Would you rather have a quick painless death or a long, drawn out painful one? The world isn't black and white! Grow up!"
Harry stood up and began pacing, trying their best not to lose their temper. Finally they just gave up. They turned to Snape, who understood completely, before turning and leaving the room. They made their way to the common room, knocked to be let in, and collapsed onto one of the small couches next to Neville. The others knew how to calm them down easily: distractions.
They were quickly introduced to all of the new first years as well as telling the firsties to come to them if they ever need help. After that, some of the second and third years stopped to chat with the group, asking for help on some of the summer work they didn't understand. The older years would talk to them to ask about their summers. A lot of the muggleborns wanted to ask about future videos on their youtube channel as well.
Eventually, Harry had calmed down enough to simply enjoy talking with everyone and soak up some Gryffindor style comfort after dealing with Dumbledore's bigotry. Despite what the other houses thought, Gryffindors weren't nearly as into the house rivalry as they pretended. They had strict moral codes and after hearing about Harry's experience with the Dursleys, they had pulled back from even light-hearted teasing. The Gryffindors were determined to patch up the relationships between the houses this year, and they wouldn't give up.
