Y/n pov
"Is everything okay?" Emily asks a few minutes into the car ride.
"Yeah, why wouldn't it be?" i ask, looking at her. I know that she asks because she cares but i'm getting tired of getting asked that question. I can see the same worry on her face even though she's not even turned towards me.
"You've been out of the field for a year, it can be much"
"Both you and i have been through 'much' Emily, this will be nothing and you know it" i say as an attempt to end the conversation but it doesn't.
"I'm just making sure, what you went through..." i stop her before bringing it up.
"What i went through is in the past and i just want to forget it, okay Em?" She glances at me and i see we're pulling up to the jet now.
"Okay, but if i see anything..." she warns me, parking the car.
"You won't, i would tell you if there was anything" i say but she doesn't seem to believe me and honestly, i wouldn't either. "Now, can we please not talk about it with the others?"
"Fine, let's just drop it for now. If you promise to come with us out for a drink after the case" she gives up as we step out of the car.
"It depends"
"Depends on what?"
"On when this case ends" i answer and we get onto the jet where the others are waiting. I sit down in the first four seats closest to the aisle.Having Spencer next to me by the window, Morgan and Aaron on the other side, JJ and Emily by the other wall on my right. And we take off.
"Garcia, what do you got?" Aaron asks as she comes up on the computer screen. Now i can tell that they all use either shortening or last names.
"Well there is not a single thing connecting these women except for living in the same city. First victim was a lawyer with two kids and looks to have had a pretty social life. Same with the second victim but one child and she was an Art professor. While the third was single, no children and seemed to keep to herself" she answers and an idea comes to mind.
"Do any of them have a partner in their life?" i ask and i think it sounded better in my mind.
"Actually... no, they are all divorced... all within the last six months" she answers a few keys later.
"Could it be a jealous husband?" JJ asks.
"But why go after someone else in that case?" Morgan answers and he's right.
"Maybe to throw us off the trails"
"Then why keep a victimology, it doesn't make sense" Rossi mumbles more to himself than to the rest of us.
"Did you find someone that could be his next target?" Aaron asks Penelope and i see how she focuses on the screens around her.
"Do you know how many people aren't reported missing? If this woman has kids they wouldn't know since they are at school and her work would think she was home sick"
"Then look for women who called in sick in the last two days that recently got divorced, it's a start" Aaron looks back over me before looking at the rest. "When we get there Reid and Rossi will go to the me's office. Sloan, Morgan and Prentiss go look at the latest crime scene. While me and JJ will set up at the local PD"
His gaze asks me if i'm okay with it and i just nod. I move out of my seat and go over to sit in one of the chairs behind Aaron. Having a good view of them all but not in the middle of them. I haven't been on a plane since i was flown home from Norway, i didn't even realise that.
I go to pick up my phone, only to realise it's in the bag that's still lying on the desk. The only phone i have with me is my new work phone... that doesn't have Lena's number. I sign as i lean back and watch out the window. Emily sits down in front of me and sees the comfort i'm in, because she has a similar feeling. Up here, the people of our past can't reach us. Even though a lot more can happen, it's comforting.
"Can you send me Penelope's number?" i ask her and she looks surprised that i don't already have it since we've known each other for a while now.
"Give me your phone" she answers instead and i hand it over to her.
"It's my work phone, a new one, so..."
"So it doesn't have Lenas number in it" she finishes my sentence with a smile that i mirror.
"Correct" i say and i see how Spencer keeps glancing my way in the background.
"I'm sure Garcia will help you with that" she hands back my phone and sees that she added everyone on the team to my contacts. I press the number of Penelope before pressing it against my ear.
"Penelope Garcia" she answers quickly.
"Hi, it's y/n. I was wondering if you could help me out here"
"Sure, whatcha need?" she answers in her usual bubbly tone.
"I left my phone on my desk and was wondering if you could keep an eye on it in case Lena calls" i ask and i hear a sad 'oh', that i don't know why it's there.
"Yeah, i can do that. Anything else?" now her voice took a small turn to less happy and it stings my heart to know i may have caused it.
"No, thanks Penny" i say and she hangs up. Somewhat ridiculous of her, or maybe she just hasn't drinken her coffee just yet.
Penelope pov
I can't believe i just acted like that, i don't have the right to do that. Do i? No, I don't. I have that trail of thoughts as i walk out into the bullpen and up to your desk. It's still empty except for the small bag on the chair. It's just a simple small black bag where you only fit keys, phone and wallet. I take it with me back to my 'bat cave'. Sitting down and starting my research on women who recently got divorced that also called in sick in the last two days. Which is more than you'd think.
