After the case is done we walk back into the office where i'm met by Penelope who only keeps calling the three of us Charlie's Angels and i have a feeling it's gonna stick awhile. I go up to my desk to check my mail and there lies an engagement invitation.

"If it means something, you won't be going alone" Emily says as she waves a similar invitation in front of my face.
"James invited you?"
"Yeah, i mean we're still friends and i'm your friend so i have a plus one even"
"Then maybe it was Isabella's idea, since you got a plus one. She's jealous, that you're still good friends so she wants you to bring a date to show that you've moved on"
"Moved on? It's been over two decades since we went out and it was only for a few months"
"I know but you we're each others first"
"Can you announce that a little higher, i don't think the people on the other side of the building heard you" i can't help but laugh at her.
"Well it's a perfect opportunity for you and Aaron to go on a real date and not need to worry about anyone seeing you. The only people that's gonna be there will barely know you and have no one here to tell except me and Lena"
"You know what, that's not a bad idea. But then he'll know that you know"
"Please, it's not like i'm gonna say something. I love the both of you and it's not like i would like the two of you to get hurt"
"Don't you think it's such a big step, going to an engagement party together?"
"It's not like it's your family, it's mine. And i'm pretty sure that Mario is going to stir up some trouble so no one will even notice" i see that she reacts to that i called my father by his name.
"You're right, it's your crazy family and not mine. I'm gonna ask him to be my plus one" she says, making her way up to his office and i can't help but have a big smile on my lips. Now i can't help but wonder if Jack would come with, that would show Isabella that there is no need to be jealous. Instead of looking into the office to see how it goes i call Lena to ask about the date. It seems a little weird to send out invites this late, it says to RSVP before the first of September which is in just a few days.
"Hi Lena"
"Hi, are you home yet?"
"Yeah i'm back at the office and i'm looking at the invitation. It's the 16th of september, are you free that day?"
"Seriously?" she says in an angry tone. "I just booked a massive surgery on the 16th. Your family is crazy sending out invitations so late"
"I thought so too and that maybe it was just our invitations but Emily got one as well, so it couldn't have been just me"
"But great, then you two can go together since i can't come" she's trying to sound more happy but i can hear the disappointment and anger in her voice.
"She already has a plus one so i was thinking about asking Penelope..." but she cuts me off.
"No, you can play third wheel with them until you get there. I mean, Mark and Lexie are probably gonna be there, Lucas and Felicia and the kids too"
"Lena, you can't forbid me from hanging out with my friend"
"Penelope? Yes i can"
"Okay, and i don't care. I'm gonna ask her because i'm not gonna third wheel on my best friends, so i'm gonna invite her and we'll talk more when i get home tonight"
"Well i'm not home tonight so just don't invite her Y/n"
"Then we'll talk about it when you get home" i don't wait for her to say anything else as i can't bear with her attitude anymore. I know why she doesn't want me to be with Penelope but she can't forbid me as she's still my friend. I'm not gonna third wheel on the one date that Emily and Aaron can have without worrying about anyone finding out.
"Hey, you okay?" The familiar voice of Penelope is heard behind me and i quickly wipe away the escaping tear. I'm not gonna pretend that it didn't hurt but i'm not gonna show it in the middle of the office.
"Lena just... you know what, never mind. Do you wanna be my plus one to my brother's engagement party on the 16th? Please say yes" i ask, putting on a smile as i really need to see hers to feel better right now.
"What about Lena? Or Emily, i saw the same invitation in her hand" it's more of a questioning smile but now that she mentioned Emily i remember that thing i promised her.
"Lena has a surgery and Emily already has a plus one" and that piece of information brings a smile to her face, the one i needed.
"Really? Who? How come i don't know?" she rambles on questions.
"Do you want to come or not?"
"Yes, of course i'll come with you. I'll get to meet your family"
"And that fact makes me want to take back the invitation" i say and she puts her hands on my shoulder before saying.
"No, no, no... i'm gonna come with you to this event, meet your crazy family, protect you from your crazy family and have some fun with you in the meantime" and when she puts it like that i really see how Lena sees it.
"Then i'll RSVP that we'll be coming"
"Great, this is gonna be so fun. And i'll get to know who Emily's mystery man is" she says excitedly before making her way back to her 'bat cave'. I can't help but admire her in every way possible, even how she can do everything she does in high heels.

I read the mail before i send it, i almost seem like i'm looking forward to spending a few hours with my family. As i'm about to walk back into the bullpen i'm met by Emily who pulls me back towards the locker room.
"I did it, i asked him and he said yes. He's gonna get Jessica to watch Jack that day and it's gonna be great" she says and i can tell that they've been in love for quite awhile.
"That's great, and i just remembered that people there have met Aaron" i say but that's not what i was gonna say.
"This is gonna be so fun, me and Aaron, you and Lena, we're gonna have so much fun" and that little change in my face is something she catches quickly. "What?"
"Lena has a surgery booked that day so i asked Penny to be my plus one" i'm literally prepared for her to be mad at me.
"Y/n, the whole thing was that we would get to be open with it. If she finds out, everyone will know"
"No they won't, she's better at keeping secrets than you think. I promise"
"You mean the fact that she's not straight? That her and Kevin broke up over it? That she's irreversibly in love with you? Or that she gets..."
"Okay i get it Em, but i promise that she'll be quiet about it. If not, we'll just tell her that he's coming with us as a friend. After a glass of wine and she won't even remember if she saw you go into the same hotel room or if you kissed" i look at her and really see how much she's hoping for this to work out. "But maybe you should get ready to tell the team about it, i mean all you've got to do is sign a paper that says you two are working together and dating"
"Yeah, maybe you're right"
"I'm always right" i say with a cocky smile and gets a laugh out of her
"You're still ignoring it are you?" she asks as if she had said something that should have brought my attention, which it did but i'm just gonna choose to ignore it.
"I'm engaged to Lena" i sign as i start to walk out of the locker room.
"Why does that sound like you're trying to convince yourself more than us"
