The one where we need to cut it short

Y/n pov

"Y/n, can i speak with you" Aaron says, coming up behind me.

"Sure, excuse me" i say and leave Penelope to talk with the people there. "Is something wrong?"

"We're gonna have to cut this visit short, we've got a case and apparently our team is the only one available"

"Can't the others take care of it?"

"Literally half the team is here, plus we got our technical analyst with us. I'm also pretty sure that Lynch won't be happy to help us, not sure our team would even like his precense after the whole thing with Garcia." and there i at least know that everyone knows that they broke up, but not the reason behind it. Even though most of them probably believe that it's me.

"Okay, i'll get Penelope and we'll send Jack home with her" i say but before we separate i ask where we're going. "Where are we going?"

"Greensboro, North Carolina. We're meeting the rest there" and he goes away to find Emily and Jack. I go back to the group i was with earlier to get Penelope. But why does that place sound sort of familiar?

"I'm so sorry James, but we need to cut this visit short"

"Is something wrong?" Penelope and Isabella ask in union.

"We've got a case so we need to get back to work" and there is a sad face on the couples face. "But i want you to know that i'm really happy for you guys. Now i may live on the other side of the country but i'm still your sister, so don't forget to invite me to the wedding" and i give them each a hug before i take Penelope with me.

"As usual, always prioritising the job before family" the voice of my father says from the table we pass. "Maybe that's the real reason Lena didn't want to come with you" and even though i hate him more than anything in the world, his words hurt me.

"At least i'm not a sad drunk who doesn't care about his child" i just comment before continuing to walk.

"You are no child of mine" i hear him mutter behind us and i want to let a tear slip but Penelope just takes my hand in a way to show me that she's here. It helps.

After quick and short goodbyes we picked up our luggage from the hotel and made our way to the airport. We say goodbye to Jack and Penelope who go onto a plane back to Washington while we get on a plane that'll take us to Greensbro with a shortstop in Dallas.

"I'm sorry for ruining your getaway" i say after we've taken off.

"It's okay, we should have known it was coming" Emily answers as she takes my hand and i still want to cry right now.

"Also she knows" that makes them both look at me. "Which is not completely my fault, it was the rooms"

"Now everyone will know" Aaron signs and i can tell that none of them have much faith in her ability to keep a secret.

"Maybe not, i mean if she promised Y/n it's possible right"

"You're right about that, it does increase the possibility"

"What are you talking about?" i have to ask even though i have a clue of what it is.

"The fact that you're the reason she and Kevin broke up" Emily answers.

"I'm not actually" and it is the truth, i think.

"I know technically it was the fact that he didn't support her when she came out as bi" Emily continues.

"And how did i become the reason?"

"Who do you think made her realise that she was into women in the first place?" Aaron answers this time and i haven't even thought about that.

"I'm still engaged"

"So far yes, but who knows how long that'll last considering how jealous Lena gets, Penelope's relationship ended because of you and the fact that the feelings mutual"

"I'm... you know what, how about we go through the case instead of that" i take up my tablet and start to go through the file that JJ has sent over. "We have had five victims over the last ten months, all female victims in the age of 29 and 30. Med-students and all engaged to a woman"

"That's pretty specific" Emily says and i guess they accepted my invitation to another subject.

"Yeah but JJ didn't have the pictures so there is nothing other than that connecting them from what i can tell, we'll get a closer look on that when we arrive" Aarons adds.

"MO is execution style in their own home while their fiance is out at work. The unsub seemed to have stalked them for two months before striking, letting him get to the right woman who matches the victimology"

"Yeah, but look at the leading detective" Emily says, pointing to the name.

"Detective Mat...Matthew Black. That's why i recognised the place when you told me where we we're going. He's a part of the police force there"

"So we go from hanging out with your crazy family to your crazy ex"

"Just because James called him crazy doesn't mean he's crazy"

"Still, let's do some research on him before we get there"
