amara haven

"Amara, you're phone is ringing."

"Hm?" I groaned, rubbing my eyes.

"Phone."

I opened my eyes to see Valeria standing next to my bed, holding my phone screen to my face.

I took it from her and pressed accept on the call as I yawned.

I signalled her to shoo out of my room.

She shook her head, I urged her more.

Then I heard a voice on my phone.

"Hello?" The person said.

I rolled my eyes at my sister and focused on the call, "Hello?"

"Hey, it's David- uhm is Amara there?"

"Yeah, speaking," I replied, "David Sheff?"

"Yep," he said.

Weird.

"Who's that?" Valeria asked in a hushed whisper.

"Go," I mouthed to her.

"No!" She exclaimed.

"Oh my god, Valeria, just leave!" I raised my voice before realising I was on the phone, "Sorry, David, what's up?"

I scowled at Valeria as she crossed her arms.

"Oh, yeah, uhm. Nicolas has gone missing, and I was wondering if he was with you? Or if you know where he is? By any chance?" David asked.

"Oh, no sorry. I haven't spoken with him in at least a couple years," I replied, "He cut me off randomly and I haven't heard from him since."

"Oh," David muttered, "Well thanks anyways, Amara."

"Yeah, I- uh- I hope you can find him," I said, pinching the space between my eyebrows.

"Yeah, yeah, me too," he said.

"Look, David, I have to go. I'm sorry about Nic, and I- uhm- I'll talk to you again soon," I faltered.

"Yeah, no problem. Talk soon."

"Bye," I muttered.

"Goodbye," he said.

I took the phone away from my ear and hung up, placing my head in my hands with a sigh.

"Well?" Valeria asked, "Why're you sad?"

"Nothing, Val, just- just go and tell mum that I'll be down for breakfast soon," I replied.

"It's almost twelve," she stated.

"Lunch, then," I snapped, "Just. Go."

She made a face at me and then trotted out of my room and down the stairs.

I ran my hands through my hair, grabbing it in fistfuls.

What are the chances that I didn't talk to him for a few years and he goes missing?

And why didn't his family know we don't talk anymore?

His cutting me off hurt. Really hurt.

God, I hope he's okay.

"You alright?" Kinsley stood in the doorway of my room.

"Yeah," I said tiredly, moving to rest my chin on my hand, my eyes scanning the room.

"You sure?" She sat down next to me.

"Yeah, Kins, thanks for checking," I moved one of my hands to her leg.
