"So, what's up?" I asked.

He looked at the ground and shook his coffee around in its cup.

"I- uhm," he looked up, "You can't tell anyone, okay?"

I nodded, "Of course, I won't."

"I have a huge crush on Mei-"

"I know," I assured.

"What?" He exclaimed, "How? I never said anything or-"

"Relax, Aaron," I laughed, placing a hand on his shoulder, "I've two little sisters, I've come to know when I see a crush."

He took a deep breath, "So, will you help me? I wanna get her a gift for her birthday and confess in the card but I have no idea what to get her."

"Get who?" Nic appeared at my side, throwing his arm over me.

I rolled my eyes.

"Oh, uhm, no one," Aaron looked away.

"Do you need something, Nic?" I asked.

"No," he smiled at me, "Just wondering what you guys were talking about."

"Something that doesn't concern you," I removed myself from his grip and headed over to the others.

"Amara," he caught my wrist and pulled me back.

"Nic," I crossed my arms.

"Amara," he repeated.

"What?" I asked.

"Are you mad at me?" He hesitated.

"Both times that I have tried to have a civil and friendly conversation with Aaron, you've interrupted it," I crossed my arms, "Why?"

"I'm just curious about these new people," he defended.

"Are you jealous?" I asked.

"What?" He exclaimed.

"You heard me, Nicolas," I urged.

He laughed nervously, "I'm not jealous, Amara-"

"Then let me talk to Aaron alone. You have absolutely nothing to worry about," I promised.

"Oh, Nic, come see this!" Kate called him over to where she was with Mei and Walker.

He looked at me before walking over to them.

I felt a pang of jealousy.

"You okay?" Aaron asked.

No.

I nodded, "Fine, yes. About Mei, there's a book she's been talking about and I don't think she's been able to find it."

"Great, that's great. Okay, perfect. What book?" He asked.

"It's a book full of poetry," I facepalmed, trying to remember the name of the book, "God. Oh! A Light in the Attic!"

"Oh! I know someone who has two copies. I can pay them for the second one!" He exclaimed, hugging me tightly.

I smiled, pulling back, "Perfect!"

He looked like he could jump up and down from the excitement, "Thank you. Thank you so much, Amara."

"Of course," I punched his arm lightly, "And if you need help writing a sweet card to go with it, Nic is amazing at romantic poetry. Well, any poetry, but you know what I mean."

He nodded, "I can't thank you enough. I just really hope it works."

"It will," I assured, "As I said, I have two little sisters, so I've gotten pretty good at noticing crushes, and she likes you, too."
