two years later...
amara haven
I sat at my desk with papers scattered everywhere and my laptop in front of me.
"Amara," Nic's voice carried into the room in a sing-song tone.
"Hm?" I muttered, rubbing my temples as I continued to take notes.
"Did you forget about tonight?" He asked.
"No, of course not," I replied, "I'm just... I have to get this done, I'm sorry."
"It's okay," he kissed my head, "Can I help at all?"
"I don't know," I sighed.
"Okay," he pondered for a moment, "Let me know if I can."
I nodded.

After four hours of cramming, I finished the paper.
I yawned and stretched my shoulders, taking my glasses off and running a hand through my hair.
My eyes caught the clock and it read 9:23 PM.
A wave of regret washed over me.
The reservation Nic had made was for seven-thirty.
I got up and walked out of our room, he was sitting with a book in the lounge.
"Nic, I'm so sorry, I-"
He put the book down and got up, "It's okay, Mara," he said, walking around the sofa, "We can still go out."
"Well... yes, but I got so caught up in that stupid paper that I ruined the nice evening you planned and-"
"Amara," he brought his hands to my shoulders, "Don't overthink it."
"But-"
"It's okay," he pulled me against his chest.
We'd been officially together for two years and we were happier than ever.
"I have an idea," he said.
I moved my chin to his chest to look at him.
He looked down, "We could get crappy takeout and go to the view point."
"Like old times?" I questioned.
He nodded, "Exactly."
"I'm really sorry," I said again.
"Don't apologise," he kissed my nose, "Just go get dressed."
"I am dressed," I pulled back from him and twirled in my joggers and hoodie.
He chuckled, "If that's what you want to wear... wear it."
I giggled, "Give me a few minutes to shower and whatever."
"I'll come with you," he followed after me.
I rolled my eyes, "If you insist."
