three years later...

amara haven

I was buzzing with nerves, pacing back and forth.

"I can't do this," I breathed, anxiously fidgeting with my hands.

"Come on, Amara, you'll be fine," Leah reassured, stopping me by placing her hands on my shoulders.

"No, I-"

"Ah, no excuses. You've loved this man for... how long?" She asked.

"Eleven years or so," I replied.

"And you're worried about marrying him? You're being dramatic," she said.

"I don't know if that's helping her, Leah," Kinsley muttered.

"Someone else deal with her nerves then," Leah exclaimed, walking away to sit in a chair.

"Come on, Am, let's be realistic for a moment," Kinsley said, taking my hand and guiding me to sit down, "Nic has loved you for years and he asked you to marry him, the chances he won't say 'I do' are nonexistent."

I nodded, steadying my breath, "You're right."

"They're ready for us," Valeria said, peaking her head into the tent.

Nic and I chose the view point to get married, meaning that we had to use tents as our getting ready 'rooms.'

The point was set up beautifully, an arch sat proud in front of the cliff, a little trail of rose petals, and rows of chairs that faced it.

I was in the tent with my bridesmaids, internally freaking out.

Valeria's words sparked a whole new wave of nerves.

They were ready.

Meaning that the guests were sitting in their chairs and Nic was stood with the marriage commissioner and his best men.

"Calm down, Amara, you can do this," Elena promised, giving me a short hug.

David appeared seconds after, "Ready?"

I nodded, taking a few deep breaths.

Valeria walked out first, the song I'd chosen hummed softly.

After Valeria was Leah, Kate and Elena.

Once they had left to walk down the aisle, David held his arm out.

I took it, "I don't know if I can do this."

"You can," he reassured, "Nic's been a ball of nerves all day, too. You guys can do this."

I took another deep breath and nodded, "Yes, okay. Let's go."

We walked out of the tent and towards the point.

Our guests stood from their chairs and turned to face me.

I could only focus on Nic, the second I met his eyes, I knew everything would be okay.

I wanted to drop everything and run into his arms.

I felt tears well in my eyes, I was overwhelmed by emotions.

The short distance between us felt like a million miles, but when David handed me off to him, I felt safe.

That was my family, everyone there.

Nic, David, Karen, Axel, Leah, Kate, Elena, Valeria, Kinsley, Daisy, Jasper... all of them.

Family isn't always about blood, it's about the people you love most in life.

I wished my Dad was there. That was the only thing that would've perfected the day more.

After the ceremony and plenty of tears, we had a little reception that lasted a short two hours.

Though I was enjoying the celebration, I was tired and desperate to sleep comfortably next to my husband.

My husband.

The words were still new on my tongue.

A taste I was getting used to quite quickly.

I was tying my hair up when Nic came into the bathroom.

"Look at that, my perfect wife," he said, pulling me against him.

I rolled my eyes, "Hardly."

"Oh stop," he nuzzled into my neck, "You're perfect to me and you always will be."

"I love you," I said, leaning back into his touch.

"I love you," he kissed my cheek.

We made eye contact in the mirror.

"I still can't believe it, you're my wife," he said.

"You're wife."

"We should have a baby," he suggested.

I considered it for a moment before nodding, "Yeah, I think we should."

"Wait really?" He hesitated, pulling back in shock.

I chuckled and turned in his arms, "Yeah, why not? We both want kids eventually."

"I said that to try and get you to bed, I didn't mean literally," he exclaimed.

I frowned, "Oh?"

"No, no, not like that- I-"

I giggled, he was flustered.

"I just meant..."

"I understand," I touched his face, "You do want kids but you said that in this moment to bed me."

He nodded, "But if you're serious about it..."

"I am," I said.

"Then let's do it," he agreed.

A/N
just to assure theres no confusion, the 'years later' portion of these next few final chapters are referring to however many years since Nic overdosed have passed. so for this case, three years later is only a year after they got engaged. hope that makes sense!
much love xx
