THE FOLLOWING MORNING, DAHLIA woke up feeling as though she hadn't slept a wink. Her eyelids were heavy and her body screamed in protest as she struggled to sit up in bed. She wanted nothing more than to curl up beneath the covers and go back to sleep, though the clock on her bedside table read a few minutes before seven o'clock, and she knew that she had to start her day. She groaned loudly, stretching her arms above her head despite her muscles begging against it.
Several minutes later, Dahlia finally managed to convince herself to get out of bed. The hard flooring was cool beneath her feet, and she quickly changed out of her pajamas and into her everyday clothing. She put little effort into her appearance, feeling the need to impress no one. Once she was sure that she at least didn't look like she just rolled out of bed, she slipped on a pair of shoes and exited her bedroom. Soft snores came from a sleeping figure on her couch, causing her to roll her eyes in amusement. Lena had been assigned to watch over her the night before; although Dahlia was thankful for the agents' willingness to watch over her, she didn't necessarily like the idea of needing protection. Being the reason that other people's routines and lives were altered just didn't sit right with her.
"Wake up, lazy bones. You're gonna be late," she called to Lena, who let out one last snore before stirring. The British girl yawned loudly, stretching her body out along the couch as her eyes fluttered open.
"Good to know I was well watched over," Dahlia teased.
"I was sleeping with one eye open, love!" Lena insisted, her voice scratchy from sleep. Dahlia scoffed in amusement, knowing very well that her friend slept soundly through the night. If the Reaper or any of his Assassins had managed to sneak inside the door, Lena would never have known.
Dahlia said goodbye to Lena, reminding her friend of the breakfast foods stashed in the kitchenette before she left her dorm. Despite the restless night sleep she had the night before, now that she was awake and walking around, she felt rather energetic. She knew that her work day would feel much more relaxing compared to the business of the medbay the day before. She was looking forward to a rather laid back day.
As she made her way down the halls, nearing the exit, she nearly ran into a figure as they stepped out from their own dorm. Dahlia came to a stop just in time, mumbling a quiet apology as she looked up at who had joined her in the hallway. She was surprised to find Genji standing in front of her.
"Hey, Genji," she greeted him with a small smile. Her eyes traveled down to the cybernetic sleeve that covered his organic arm, and she felt the ghost of his touch on her fingertips as she was once again reminded of their encounter in the medbay the day before. It was then that she noticed the state he was in, and she frowned. His hood was pulled over his head, the lights on his suit dimmed, and although she was unable to see his expression, she knew that he wasn't necessarily in a good mood. "Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed?"
Genji didn't respond. He turned away from her, acting as though he hadn't even heard her. He began to walk away, which only confused her more.
"What's your problem?" She called after him. He paused, his entire body tensing as he seemingly processed her words. Then, his shoulders heaved as he sighed, and he glanced at her over his shoulder.
"McCree, really? I warned you about him, Kitsune."
That's his problem? Dahlia thought to herself, her eyebrows pulling together in confusion. He's really upset that I had dinner with McCree?
