I'm standing in front of Skylee at recess. She smiles, "Why do you always fight death?" I glare at her before puking what seems like an ocean of blue blood. I look up to see my mom walking to Skylee. She is covered in blood, still wearing the blue dress I found her in. Her tear streaks are still clearly visible on her face. Her eyes are bloodshot and she looks like she hasn't slept in days, however, she's wearing the brightest smile I've ever seen anyone wear. She gives Skylee a hug and she glares at me. "Kill her," she says as she looks away from me. "SALLY!!!!" I hear Max scream behind me. Black.

I bolt awake hyperventilating. I feel Max grab my shoulder and hold my hand, "Hey, hey, it's ok, I'm here..." I slowly calm down and lay back in Max's arms. "The dream again?" he whispers in my ear. All I do is nod. Max sighs, "Me too, me too." He sits there and rubs my arm, calming me down. After a while I grab my phone off the bedside table, "My alarm is going off in 15 minutes, might as well get ready." I get out of bed and find a set of folded clothes at the door. "Oh, yeah forgot to tell you," Max says getting out of bed, "Lexi left these here for you." I pick up the clothes. There's a black sweat-shirt with an AVIVA logo on it, Black shorts, and black converse and socks. "Ok, I'll go change in the bathroom." "I mean you could change in here," Max says laughing. I turn and glare at him and he laughs harder, "You know I'm kidding. I'll change while you're gone." I roll my eyes and leave the room to change.

"Ok, everyone ready?" Lexi says getting her car keys. "I think so," I say, looking around at everyone. A pit in my stomach forms as Lexi opens the door. Lexi and Max exit the apartment and I go to follow. I turn around and see Bre just standing there. She's wearing a black and blue baseball tee and blue ripped jeans. She has her arms crossed and her messy brown braid falls down her shoulder. I walk up to her, "Bre? What's wrong?" She looks up at me with sad, almost tear filled eyes, "I- I don't know. I have a bad feeling about going to school." Bre shifts her weight. I sigh and give her a hug, "Yeah, me too. But hey, the sooner we get school over with the sooner we can make a plan to get Skylee out. Then things can go back to normal right?" Bre nods. We both know that's a lie. Nothing will ever be normal again. Not after this. In just a few weeks our Mom's have died, I've nearly died multiple times, she's nearly died once. Our whole lives have turned upside down. But that seemed to calm Bre down a little bit as she grabbed my hand, "Let's go, Max and Lexi are probably waiting." We both laugh as we run down the hallway hand in hand.

Lexi drops us off at school telling us she lifted the spell she placed on the school. As we walk into the School I'm met with the usual stares. I continue walking to my first class. Bre splits off to her locker and Max and I walk into class. "Oh no," I mumble, as I see Josie sitting on my desk holding a small gift box in her lap. As soon as she sees me she jumps up and rushes up to me. Max grabs my arm as she reaches us. "Hey Sally! I'm really, really sorry about what I said. Here!" She holds out the gift box and I cautiously take it. Josie skips off to her seat and sits down. Max and I walk to our seat and I eye the gift. "Do you think she's really sorry?" Max whispers in my ear. I laugh, "Of course she's not, I'm preparing for a dead rat or something." But nothing could've prepared me for what was in that box. I lift the lid and dump out what's inside. I scream as a picture of my mom's corpse flutters out of the box, just like she was when I found her. Along with it a piece of paper:

You're Next

The note is written in blood. I fall into my seat and blink away tears forming in my eyes. I place a hand on my heart trying to slow my breathing. "WHAT THE FUCK JOSIE?!" I hear Max scream. Josie is laughing like she's watching the best comedian she's seen in her life. Mrs. Doris walks in, "What in the love of mother earth is happening in here?!" Max grabs the present, picture, and note, and hands them to Mrs. Doris, explaining what happened. Mrs. Doris sighs, "Josie, office." Josie scoughs, "Some people just can't take a joke." She huffs out of class while Mrs. Doris makes a call.

News of what happened quickly spreads across the school. Now the stares are accompanied by many more whispers. Some on Josie's side, some not. Whatever, I don't care about any of them. They could all drop dead for all I care. I walk into the cafeteria to find Bre already at our usual table. I run over and give her a hug. After sitting down Bre asks, "Hey I heard about what happened, you ok?" I shrug, "Yeah, I guess. Nothing I haven't seen before. I just don't know how she got the image." Max cringes and mumbles, "You shouldn't've had to see it period." I give Max a little hug and he tosses me an apple. I open my mouth to say something but Max gives me his 'Don't fight me, just eat it' look so I just take a bite. We sit there making small talk until the bell rings. Signaling recess. Max packs his stuff up and gets up. An uneasy feeling makes its way into my system. I look up at Bre and our eyes meet. Her too.
