"And, did you get anything?" I asked walking into the lab where Tony and Bruce were doing their research.
"From the pizza or from the call?" Tony asked stupidly, but they must have been working for hours already. I walked closer seeing Jemma's face on the screen. They were calling to think together about ways to make it go away, and Jemma was so happy to be smart with them.
I said hi to her and she greeted me back telling me I looked nice. I was wearing nothing too fabulous, but I wanted to dress up again after two full weeks of only wearing my suit and pyjamas.
We've been going through all of America to fight these mutants army, but they were fast and sometimes they left before we could take them into custody... Everybody was tired and constantly alert for the next fight or for some goddamn information.
"Fitz helped Bruce design some tests that can determine what impulses lead to the block," Jemma said and I frowned waiting to hear what he came up with curiously. "Some may seem a little childish, but it's for science," Jemma said sweetly making me smile. I trusted them to do whatever they felt like what needed to be done.
"Are you okay? you seem a little pale..." Bruce said walking closer and I sighed. "You look exhausted," Tony said with more sarcasm than concern in his voice.
"Yeah, aren't we all," I stated sarcastically while Bruce put the back of his hand against my forehead making me frown and pull back from him and he sighed.
"You're burning up," he said softly. "I don't get sick anymore," I said back dryly and Jemma never seemed to not feel like taking care of others.
"Your body is still adjusting to fighting so much after... you know, maybe you should rest a little more just to not get any sicker, Celene," Jemma said making me chuckle at her concern and the fact that she's never confident enough to actually call out what went on in Hydra.
"I'll be fine, the sooner I can kill dave the faster I can rest, we can all rest," I said dryly but they were still looking with concern and... confusion?
I knew I had been a little more distant from them, but they were acting as if I never spoke to them again. The truth was that I was constantly busy with my own conflicted feelings, calming myself down and preparing to fight day after day while they never seemed to be ending. Time felt as if it was flying so I stayed more grounded and focused. But they could just never stop worrying.
"You think we can work on some of these tests today?" I asked them but Tony sighed. "Celene..." "Can you?" I asked again more specific if they could handle the work today trying to sound nice, but it came out harsh and direct making them look as worried as they already were.
"Just let me know if you need me," I said walking out feeling the urge to do so. They didn't call after me so I let out a relieved sigh making my way to Bucky to do nothing together.
We were painting and I wanted to know how much we were alike in our minds. Andrew once showed me different abstract figures and shit and made me tell him what I saw and felt looking at them, so I made a few of those and found some online and did it with Bucky just for fun.
