The cool breeze gently caressed your sore back, rippling through your fur and stirring up a strange sensation of peace within you. The past few days hadn't been easy for you. First, a border skirmish between ThunderClan had broken out during a patrol due to you being unable to keep your mouth shut, and you'd lost part of your right ear and bore a deep scar across your muzzle. It had all been blamed on you, and Leopardstar had punished you by forcing you to clean the elders' den and rid trek of ticks like you were a minnow-brained apprentice. Since the skirmish, you hadn't felt like yourself. The things you used to enjoy seemed bland and uninteresting now, and no fish you ate tasted nearly as juicy. Something unpleasant was going on inside you, and you didn't quite know what to do.

The sound of grass shifting under paws caught your attention. You turned your head slightly to the left to see your good friend, Stonefur, leap up beside you. You watched him as he took several steps toward you and sat down mere whisker-lengths away from you. You tore your gaze away from his broad features, focusing on the dramatic sunset millions of miles away from the river. Stonefur followed your gaze, his dark blue eyes coming alive in the array of orange and gold. You said nothing, not wanting to ruin the peaceful aura. I seem to ruin everything else, You thought, bitterly amused. The least I can do for him is keep my muzzle shut for a moment. But instead of irritated silence, you were surprised by something completely different.

"I've always thought RiverClan gets the best view of sunsets," Your friend meowed softly, gently pulling your gaze back to him merely with words. "I mean, sure, WindClan has the open moor, but is there really a better place to watch the sun go down than the river? I doubt it." You were stunned into silence. You hadn't been expecting the deputy to say anything to you; he was on the patrol you messed up, after all. Why would he ever want to talk to you ever again? You were just an embarrassment to your clan. "Like something you see?" He purred, suddenly ripping you from your dark thoughts.

"Oh, um... Yeah! W-well, actually no! B-but I'm not saying you're unattractive. I think you're very attractive! I-I just didn't-"

Stonefur laughed, throwing his head back in a joyous way. "Take it easy, you furball. I'm just messing with you." You laughed awkwardly, feeling your ears heat up at your inability to see the remark for what it truly was.

"Sorry. I guess I'm a little on edge." You chuckled, allowing your shoulders to relax. The sturdy gray warrior scooted a little closer to you, and your ears grew hot once again as his tail-tip lightly brushed against yours. "Sorry for snapping at you, Stonefur," You apologized sincerely, turning to look at your friend. "I just haven't felt like myself since... Well..."

"I know," Stonefur meowed honestly, twining his tail with yours. "Mistakes were made, and that's okay. Sometimes cats just mess up in one way or another. It's nothing to worry about, (Y/N). It's all in the past now. Everyone has pretty much forgotten about it."

"Leopardstar hasn't," You sniffed, flattening your ears and staring down at your reflection in the clear water. "I don't think she'll ever let me forget this."

Stonefur smiled sympathetically, gently smoothing your bristling spine with his tail. "Leopardstar is only trying to make sure you understand what you did was wrong. She would've done the same with any one of our clanmates. A leader's main concern is making sure his or her clan is unharmed and well-educated. Leopardstar would die for you, (Y/N)," He paused, looking down at the water and smiling at your reflection. "and so would I." He leaned over and touched his nose to your cheek in a reassuring way. You giggled, playfully pushing him away from you with a paw. He smirked, swiping you over the ear and tackling you down. You stared into his dark blue depths, your whiskers twitching involuntarily as his sweet breath tickled your face. He stared back, something lively glistening on his eyes' shining surface.

"The color of the sunset really brings out the kindness in your eyes," He meowed softly after a moment, moving his nose a little closer to yours. "Anyone could be fooled into thinking they're made of Moonstone."

You smiled softly, leaning forward and touching your nose to his. "You say the sweetest things, Stonefur. I can't believe I'm this lucky." With that, the handsome gray warrior connected his mouth with yours, and you wrapped your paws around his strong neck and pulled him so close toward you that your bodies locked together, and his lower half rested between your hind legs. He placed both his front paws on either side of you as he moved his head from side-to-side, capturing every breath you took and purr that rippled from your throat. Finally, after what seemed like moons, Stonefur removed his mouth from yours for air. You both stared at each other, smiling like smitten apprentices and breathing heavily.

"We should head back," You murmured, giving him one last lick on his nose. "It's getting pretty late." But as you were getting up, Stonefur gently placed a paw on your chest and pushed you back down. You cocked an eyebrow curiously, feeling your entire face heat up.

"We don't have anywhere to be," He whispered, gently kissing you again. "Let's enjoy what we've created tonight. The clan will be okay." You purred, relaxing underneath him and allowing yourself to sink into the cool stone below you.

"If you insist, dear." Then, you both began kissing again as the moon rose above the water.
