You hadn't slept in days.
Ever since you were exiled from RiverClan on account of your relationship with a ThunderClan tom, you had been living in a small hollow at the end of the river, far away from the clans and everything you had ever known.
It seemed brutally unfair— Since when was falling in love such a heinous crime? You didn't think it was that big of a deal, but Leopardstar did. She had called you a traitorous, sniveling minnow-heart of a warrior, then threw you out into the night to fend for yourself.
What a bunch of fox dung, You growled silently as you made your way down the well-worn path towards the small pond at the end of the river.
Leopardstar was always a complete minnow-brain. I shouldn't be surprised.
You padded up to the water's edge, plopping down with a heavy sigh. The sun was beating down on you mercilessly, and there was nothing you wanted to do more than leap into the cool water and lose yourself in it's depths.
At least I can still have water.
You bunched your muscles underneath yourself and prepared to throw yourself into the pool, but a swift movement all the way on the other side of the river stopped you.
You crouched down in the grass, your heart beating faster than it had been a moment ago.
You peered out between the long cattails, narrowing your eyes as you watched the line of trees far away.
After a tense moment, nothing happened, and you began to think you had simply imagined the brisk movement. Just as you were about to stand up, however, the two hazel bushes on the other side of the river rustled, and a lean, sleek-furred black tom with a single white forepaw stepped out, his ice-blue eyes cold and calculating.
You gaped, scooting further back into the reeds. He didn't look like a clan cat, and he especially didn't smell like one. The wind was blowing in your direction, taking the stranger's scent with it. He reeked of old blood and crowfood, and you found yourself fighting to not retch.
The stranger padded out of the bushes and crouched down at the water's edge, lapping up mouthfuls of the hydrating liquid. You got a better look at him then, and he was even more intimidating than he was a moment ago. His black pelt was covered in angry scars and wounds, and he bore a tattered red object around his neck with claws and teeth jutting out of it. You also noticed that his claws were tipped with the same teeth as his collar.
Great StarClan in Silverpelt... Wherw did he come from?
You had many questions, but there was no way in all the fish in the river you were about to stride right up to him and strike up a conversation— He didn't seem like the friendly type.
The strange tom rose back up, rasping his tongue over his jaws to lick the last of the water from his whiskers. You watched him as he turned away without a second to spare, then disappeared back into the undergrowth.
Once you were sure he was far away, you stood back up and gave your pelt a shake.
You had no idea who he was or what his intentions were, but you were determined to find out.

It was three days before you saw the strange tom again.
You were climbing out of the water and onto a large flat rock to dry off in the sun when the familiar sound of pawsteps in grass began steadily approaching over the sounds of rippling water.
Slightly alarmed at the sudden change of atmosphere, you whirled around to face the opposite shore, only to see the same tom from a few days ago standing at the water's edge. For the first time since you had seen him, he noticed your presence and looked up, his ice-cold blue eyes locking with yours.
You were frozen to the spot, your heart thundering in your chest. He was much closer to you than before, and you could now make out every feature on him. Smooth, rippling muscles, a toned chest, and a stone-hard look in his eyes.
You shifted your paws, biting your lip. He was probably the most attractive cat you had ever laid eyes on.
