The rain pattered down softly on the stone roof of the den, filling the warm space with a soothing aura. You wouldn't have it any other way; curled up close to the love of your life, listening to each other's heartbeats while a storm passed outside. It was everything you had ever wanted.

The battle-scarred black leader — best known as Nightstar — turned his stunning dark blue eyes up to you, a smile gently stretching across his face. "Can't sleep?" He twined his tail with yours, silently willing you to come closer to him.

"I can never sleep during storms," You confessed. "Something about them makes me nervous. I think it's the—" Right on cue, a loud crash echoed outside, shaking the den. You shuddered, subconsciously shifting closer to your mate with a sigh. "—thunder." He gazed down at you sympathetically, a small half-smile present on his handsome face.

"Don't worry, my dear," He murmured, rasping his tongue across the space between your ears. "There's nothing to be afraid of here. You're safe and sound in my embrace." Although you knew what he was saying was nothing but true, your chest felt tight with anxiety. Storms, especially thunderstorms, never failed to frighten you. You looked up at Nightstar, tears beginning to brim in the corners of your eyes. "It's okay, (Y/N)," Ge repeated, slightly more firm, but still reassuring. "We're completely safe in here. It's nice and warm, and the rain can't even touch us. How many cats do you know that have died from a thunderstorm?"

You laughed shakily, pulling yourself together. "Not a single one. How many cats do you know that have a cheeky furball for a mate?"

Nightstar smirked, his tail curling up in amusement. "Just you. And I know for a fact that you love it." You huffed, reaching up and cuffing his ear. He growled playfully, swatting at your muzzle. You reared back, dodging his blow, then ducked underneath it and sprang onto him. He toppled back with a grunt, glaring at you in a none-threatening way. You stuck your tongue out, making an exaggerated mmm noise.

"It just goes to show you that she-cats always come out on top!"

He curled his lip back, a mock snarl escaping his clenched teeth. "You asked for this, smart-ears!" Then, he sat up, wrapping his paws around your neck and gently pushing you back into your nest. You both began to laugh, completely unaware of the storm that was raging outside. Suddenly, Nightstar's laughter twisted into a violent cough, and you quickly sat up as he doubled over.

"Are you okay?" You meowed urgently, placing your paw on his heaving back. He'd had this problem for moons; Runningnose had called it asthma, but you didn't quite know what the word meant, only that it was a problem with the lungs.

"I'm okay, love," He panted once his coughing fit subsided. "You don't need to worry. I'm as strong and healthy as ever."

"I know you are," You murmured, padding in front of him and gently lifting his chin with a paw. "I just don't want you to overwork yourself."

He chuckled tiredly, resting his tail on your back and guiding you over to the nest you shared. "I won't. StarClan gave me nine lives to lead ShadowClan for many moons." You smiled at him as you both settled down, touching your nose to his.

"You're my everything," You whispered. "You'll never know how much I love you, Nightstar."

"I love you, too." He purred, resting his chin on your neck with a content sigh. You closed your eyes, the heaviness of sleep beginning to weigh on you. It was then that you realized the storm had ceased, and had been replaced by the gentle song of crickets and the wind rushing through the pines. You shifted slightly, allowing your mate some extra room. He took it gratefully, making sure to twine his tail with yours to show his appreciation.

"Goodnight," You whispered to the comfortable silence. "Sleep well, my love." But he was already long gone, snoring softly. You smiled, allowing the fuzziness of a dream take you into it's warm embrace. No matter how many seasons passed or how many times ShadowClan struggled, you would always have Nightstar, and that was more than enough for you.

Short but sweet, just how I like it.

Nightstar is such an underrated character imo. He was so kind in Yellowfang's Secret, and I think he deserved better.

I know he never technically got nine lives and his name was technically Nightpelt, but the wiki said his name was Nightstar, so I went with that. Also, I thought him telling you he had nine lives was him comforting you with a lie, because he knew you would worry yourself sick if you knew the truth.

Thanks for reading, guys! I hope you have a great day/night
