Crisp air struck your face as you left the safety of the forest and emerged onto the open moor. You could see Fourtrees looming in the distance, tall and proud like great lions. You swallowed, fighting back the worm of apprehension that was squirming in your belly.  You knew what you were doing was strictly against the Warrior Code, and you knew that if anyone found out, it would most likely be the end of your time serving ThunderClan. But as you felt like cool breeze rush through your fur and smelled the sweet tang of the night air, you somehow couldn't care less. Freedom was something you rarely tasted, and it served as a delicacy.

You raced across the new wide-open world, gorse bushes and wildflowers flying past you in a blur. The crest of the hill where Fourtrees sat grew closer and closer, and eventually, the heather became soft, cool grass under your paws and your nostrils were filled with the wild and wonderful scents of the forest again. You burst through the thick ferns that surrounded the clearing, skidding to a halt at the base of the ancient oaks. The stars shone boldly through the lush green branches, casting a silver light on the gnarled roots.

"Whoa," You breathed, staring in awe at the famous trees. "It's even more stunning up close." A giggle sounded from the very top of the middle tree, and you looked up to see a familiar pair of crystal blue eyes.

"Yeah, but it's even better up here!"

You gaped, jaw hanging open as you watched her skillfully maneuver her way down the trunk. "How did you get up there?" You asked, utterly amazed.

Your new friend shrugged. "I climbed."

You let out a snort. "You don't say. Why even bother?" You could tell by one look at the looming trunks that a climb to the top would be tedious at best. You were a ThunderClan cat, but that didn't necessarily mean you liked the feeling of sharp branches snagging your pelt, or the feeling of vertigo as you climbed higher and higher. In fact, you only hunted in trees if it was absolutely necessary.

Silverstream smirked, her tail-tip twitching deviously. "Because it's fun! Come on, minnow-brain; I'll show you!" The pretty silver she-cat leaped onto the first branch, then to another, turning to look down at you once again. Even though she wasn't even halfway to the top, you had to swallow a lump in your throat. You hated heights.

"Are you coming, scaredy-mouse?" She teased, her blue eyes glittering mischievously. You sighed, giving in to your ego. With a grunt, you leaped up and sank your claws into the trunk and began hauling yourself further up the tree branch by branch. Silverstream was still several tail-lengths ahead of you, and she was scaling the canopy with such ease that you felt a small twinge of jealousy.

Maybe I should try my paw at swimming, You thought sarcastically as you scaled the last two branches and leaped up beside Silverstream. because it seems ThunderClan and RiverClan have switched places.

Your RiverClan friend smiled at you as you sat down beside her, her usual mischievous smirk replaced by a genuine smile. You smiled back, albeit awkwardly, but she didn't seem to mind. "Wow," You chuckled, still catching your breath. "You sure know how to show up a ThunderClan warrior."

She purred, letting out a small mrrow of amusement. "I've just had a lot of practice— more than any of my clanmates. There's no way in StarClan I could climb all day like you." You smiled, deciding not to mention the small fact that you refused to hunt in trees unless you had to; that would just be embarrassing.

You blinked as a soft gust of wind rippled through your fur, causing the leaves around you to quiver. Turning your gaze upward, you saw that Silverstream was right. The night sky had come alive with the spirits of your ancestors, twinkling and dancing about like tiny bright snowflakes. It truly was a beautiful sight to behold. But as your gaze left the distant lights and rested on the she-cat that sat beside you, you knew there were far more beautiful things.

"Um... Silverstream?" You meowed quietly, uncertainty rippling through you.

Silverstream turned, her blue eyes dancing like tiny moons in the starlight. "Yes, (Y/N)?" You swallowed a thick ball of saliva that had formed in the back of your throat, anxiously flexing your claws. She was way out of your territory.

"I... I was just wondering if you wanted to keep meeting like this. I-I mean, I've really had fun tonight, and I think it would be great if we could stay in touch. Y-you know, like friends do? If you d-don't want to, I totally understand. I just thought—" The RiverClan warrior gently stroked her tail across your muzzle, silencing you. You looked away, your ears hot with embarrassment.

"I would like that." She murmured, leaning so close to you that your whiskers brushed together. You stiffened, your heart pounding against your ribs like a platoon of war-bound warriors charging into battle. The most beautiful she-cat you had ever come in contact with was so close to you that you could feel her gentle breath on your muzzle. You never would've thought you would ever get to experience it. You both laughed awkwardly, looking in opposite directions. Once the sound of your heart died down to a steady beat and the blood stopped rushing in your ears, you realized that the crickets had stopped chirping and birds had begun to sing all around you. You looked up to see the swath of stars beginning to fade as the sky turned from an inky black to a dark indigo. Silverstream noticed this, too, because she rose to her paws with a yawn and began descending the large oak. You followed after her, easily gliding through the luscious canopy until your paws were safely resting on solid ground again.

"Thanks for coming, (Y/N)," She purred, gently flicking your ear with the tip of her tail. "I'll see you at the gathering." Then, she turned and bounded across the clearing and vanished into the shadows of the early morning. You watched her go, a flutter in your chest. All your previous doubts had melted away like snow, leaving behind a warm, light feeling that made you want to leap into the air and dance all the way back to ThunderClan. You had never felt this happy in your life.
