The rain persisted all across Musutafu, soaking the concrete, the soil, and the trees.
It was a mixture of aromas Y/N somewhat enjoyed, but he wasn't complaining about the gray and dreary sky.
Standing under an umbrella with Nemuri and Hopper, they looked through a catalog of vehicles for something that had enough room for the whole family while remaining under the radar and being reliable.
It was a tough choice to make once they became attached to their old car, one capable of everything they needed while also being able to endure whatever the dirt roads to Nana's home would throw at them.
Y/N didn't go into too much detail concerning Kaina, but not for the reasons Nemuri thought.
Walking outside a car dealership wasn't the most fitting place to speak of this, but Y/N did so anyway when the rain discouraged anyone from approaching.
"The Hero Public Safety Commission." He murmured, gaining her attention. "That's where I met that woman, Lady Nagant."
"Nagant?" Nemuri frowned, turning away from the many cars to see Y/N's indifference.
She knew of the former hero, just about anyone did. She was plastered all over the news as a traitor and murderer, a damning accusation that the public had no problem believing.
"I never knew her well. I only found out about her name and quirk from a file, and that was the extent of our—acquaintance, I guess you could call it."
"What did she want?" Nemuri asked.
"Nothing." Y/N shrugged and quickly reiterated. "Well, she wanted to help, I suppose."
"And you trust her?" She asked worriedly.
"Considering our circumstances, yes." He nodded. "I helped her out of a bad spot, and she's been on the run, hiding ever since."
"That doesn't clear up much." She frowned.
"She's not what the news claims her to be..." He paused as she reached up to hold his hand closer. "She was like me, a person sent to deal with the worst the government had to offer. But unlike me, she targeted the more... dirty individuals."
Y/N was a pretty straightforward person, sent to kill villains deemed much too dangerous to capture. Mostly because it had been attempted before, and failed miserably. The Commission couldn't risk heroes throwing themselves at his targets.
Nemuri knew all of this, but Kaina dealt with much more sickening things.
"Killing Heroes was her MO. People that broke their oaths, abusing their status and power to do the worst. While my work was public, hers was classified, only her and the President knew the specifics."
Y/N worked as a vigilante while Kaina was an official hero. Y/N's targets were never hidden from the public, and that made them fear him. But Kaina was a secretive individual, loading her rifle with metal slugs rather than her hair.
Y/N's work kept the villains in line, while Kaina kept the heroes in check. It was a fine balance they kept for only a fraction of Y/N's career. But that small gap in his life solidified his legend and worked just as the President intended.
"I noticed it from afar, how the killing got to her. She began to see herself as a monster, something worse than the people she killed... I contemplated reaching out, but by then, it was already too late."
Nemuri had a feeling where this was going. And she was right, proving herself wrong when she thought she knew everything.
"One day, she snapped at the President, pulling her rifle on him and firing. I had my suspicions, but I wasn't going to let a man die on thoughts alone, so I stopped her."
