"IT'S OVER! ANYONE COMES THROUGH THAT DOOR I'M JUMPING!"
The aftermath of a dangerous chase halted Y/N's flight. He looked down to see a crowd gathering, the police scrambling, and a pair stood atop a tall apartment complex.
A hulking man clutched to a young boy no older than fifteen. Y/N recognized his uniform but couldn't put his finger on which school he attended.
"I SWEAR!" The man screamed once more. "I'LL DO IT!"
Freelance journalists and the press began to gather at the far end of the situation. They clicked pictures and set up their cameras, hoping to cover the ensuing chaos.
Y/N dropped down from above, landing with a moderate thud. His sudden appearance brought gasps of surprise and whispered awe. Relief began to flood throughout the crowd, yet the police remained on edge.
"What's happening here?" Y/N asked a younger woman and her cameraman. Out of everyone else there, they had their camera set up and were ready to go live.
"Uh..." The woman swallowed, catching her nerves. "The end of a chase, a-and—"
"He's making demands." The cameraman added, having his calling snap her fingers with a nod. "He's been going off about how life screwed him over. He took a boy before crawling up the thing like some kind of crazy."
Y/N looked back with narrowed eyes. Over the side of the building was a line of dots the size of the man's fists. From where he stood, Y/N could make out broad shoulders and irregularly large arms.
"How long have they been up there?" Y/N asked.
"About twenty minutes now." The news anchor sighed. "He's getting jumpy though. The police have something in mind. Probably has something to do with that hero up there."
She pointed up toward a nearby building. Standing over the ledge was the supposed hero, a young man by the looks of it. His only distinguishing feature was his mask made of a dark and smooth wood.
"You're fast, right?" The cameraman asked. "Just—get up there and cross 'em over. Boom pow."
"May I see that?" Y/N gestured to his camera. The man nodded and made way, giving Y/N a view of the criminal up close. "Thank you."
The man's skin was ravaged by his quirk. Mutated muscle and flesh melded together, creating a thick hide of sorts. The color was also off and the texture was stippled with a shiny finish.
"He looks like he's got some kinda—gila monster quirk." Rachel whispered.
"I've forgotten about those." Y/N hummed. The monster in question was more of a lizard than anything. A venomous reptile with a thick hide and muscles to boot.
"What do you think?" The news anchor asked.
"I'll handle it." Y/N's eyes flashed red and he was gone, leaving a more menacing air than a joyous one.
Atop a nearby convenience store, Y/N appeared from nothing, giving the awaiting hero a scare.
"Oh my—!" He recoiled, nearly losing his balance before regaining it. "W-what are you doing here?"
"What's your quirk?" Y/N asked, throwing the man off for a beat. It may have been a dumb question to ask, but he could never be too sure.
"Uh," He blinked before his hands extended with a creak of wood. They turned and grew, never splintering or suggesting there was a restriction to his mobility. "I'm able to extend parts of my body like a—tree? A tree."
He sounded unsure. Y/N looked into his eyes to see that he held a deep nervousness bordering on anxiety. He had never heard of him, nor did he recognize him. He was new, a fresh face to the hero society.
