Y/N had done just as he said. With his quirk, he walked hand in hand with Nemuri into her home, grabbed everything she may have needed, and walked right out.
Not a thing was disturbed when time was stopped, and when it was all over and done with, they stood on the roof once more, taking inventory.
A big part of Nemuri's luggage was related to school, but Y/N carried that and a bag of clothes over his shoulder with ease, leaving her with just a couple of little things like credentials and her phone.
"Are you sure about this?" She asked.
"It's just money." He murmured when he heard activity from several open doors down below. "More than enough for you to finish your exams."
"T-then what?" She stammered nervously.
"I—." He paused with a frown, unsure himself. He hadn't thought this far ahead. "I can help with your bills. I can get work, more than a few dozen agencies are willing to hire me already."
"But we're talking about an apartment here!" She hissed. "There's—there's utilities, rent, food—!"
"Then I'll help with those too." He replied without an ounce of doubt conveyed. "You don't need to worry about that, I'll handle it when the time comes."
He began situating himself, tightening her school bag and duffel bag around his shoulders, trying to make room for her.
"Hey!" A voice suddenly called out. "Hey, what are you doing out here?!"
"Do you think we're getting old?"
Y/N frowned at Nemuri's sudden and strange question. Something that gave him pause.
It wasn't anything critical to think about. With Nemuri at thirty-one, and Y/N just around the corner from the same age, he was inclined to agree. Not just for the number either.
He felt it, when taking a simple walk in the park was the most adventurous they had gotten in a whole month. And he most certainly felt it when they preferred a good nap when they were alone, as opposed to something like a drink or sex.
"Yeah." He said with a deep sigh while his eyes remained on Hopper who roamed the open grass. "It definitely feels like it."
"Hmm..."
She nodded in understanding. Usually, she would take offense to that, but his well-thought-out response didn't offend her, it made her somewhat happy.
Growing old together was a long ways away, but feeling old was an amusing halfway point. They had matured, which sounded gloomy, but it wasn't. They still had their fair share of youthful moments.
"It's not like there's anything wrong with that." He tried reasoning.
"I know." She chuckled. "It just feels like a lifetime since we were kids."
"You're not wrong." He shrugged. "I was paying bills at nineteen when I should have been partying my heart out."
The two shared a laugh over the thought, even just saying it made it seem outlandish and ridiculous.
As they walked down a long and lonesome path in the middle of a flourishing park, she reached out and held his hand, and he responded by locking their fingers together.
It was sudden, the tightened hand on his arm, an intruding voice, the bad taste in Y/N's mouth. And it all sprouted from this middle-aged man that came marching over.
He was easily recognizable, with dark purple hair and a frown that never seemed to leave his face. As well as a dress shirt and dress pants with the former's top button popped open. He was such a detestable soul that Y/N always referred to him by his surname, Ishii.
